How to Clean a Bestop Jeep Soft Top and Windows

Step 1: Identify top and window materials

Confirm the Bestop model, fabric family, window type and installation instructions. A fabric top, vinyl-coated material, tinted flexible window and glass rear window do not share one method. Note repaired seams, loose stitching, cracked plastic, deep haze and zipper damage. Cleaning cannot restore a brittle or split window, and a pressure leak at a failed seam needs repair before washing.

Step 2: Work cool and rinse loose grit

Park in shade and let the top cool. Close and latch it according to the manual so material is supported. Rinse dust and mud with gentle water from top to bottom. Do not begin by dry-wiping clear vinyl and do not aim a pressure washer at windows, seams, zippers or seals. Flush grit from folds and window edges without forcing water into the cabin.

Step 3: Wash the top material in sections

Apply Bestop-approved soft-top cleaner to the top material as its label directs. Agitate lightly with a very soft brush using even front-to-back passes, concentrating on seams without scrubbing threads. Keep the product off clear windows and painted bodywork. Bestop expressly separates fabric cleaners and protectants from vinyl windows, so use cloths and tools dedicated to this zone.

Step 4: Rinse cleaner completely

Use broad gentle flow until no foam or residue remains in the weave, seams or rain channels. Residue attracts dust and can leave uneven dark areas. Do not fold or retract the top while it is wet. Inspect the inside for leaks without pushing a towel against the flexible window, and blot any cabin drip promptly.

Step 5: Clean clear vinyl windows separately

After grit is rinsed away, apply Bestop Vinyl Window Cleaner/Polish to a clean soft cloth as directed, not to the surrounding fabric. Support the panel from the opposite side and use light straight passes. Turn the cloth frequently. Do not use household glass cleaner, ammonia, paper towels, brushes or the soft-top cleaner on flexible windows.

Step 6: Treat haze and minor marks conservatively

Bestop's vinyl window product is formulated for haze and minor scratches, but it cannot reverse deep scoring, yellowed plastic or cracking. Repeat a light approved polishing pass only when the instructions permit. Stop if clarity changes unevenly or the panel feels brittle. Never use abrasive compound, headlight-restoration paste or a powered polisher on flexible window material.

Step 7: Clean zippers without cross-contamination

Brush loose sand from zipper teeth with a dry soft brush. Use Bestop's dedicated zipper cleaner/lubricant according to its instructions, controlling the applicator so product stays off the window and fabric. Do not force a zipper through compacted grit or substitute oily household spray, which can attract more dirt and stain adjacent material.

Step 8: Apply protectant only to the correct top zone

When the washed top is clean and fully dry, apply Bestop-approved protectant in an even thin layer if specified for that material. Mask or shield clear windows and paint. Bestop warns to keep fabric protectants away from vinyl windows. Wipe accidental contact immediately by the affected surface's method rather than spreading it across a larger area.

Step 9: Air-dry fully and store without creases

Leave the top raised in shade with ventilation until fabric, seams, zipper tape and both window surfaces are completely dry. Do not fold a damp top or roll a dirty window. When windows are removed, store them clean, flat or in the Bestop-approved roll system with soft separators. Confirm latches, zippers and seals operate normally before driving.
