How to Clean a Braun Series 9 Shaver
Braun Series 9, Series 9 Pro and Series 9 Pro+ shavers combine a delicate foil-and-cutter cassette with wet-and-dry bodies, and many packages add a Clean & Charge or SmartCare center. Those are two valid cleaning paths, but they have different finishing steps. Manual water cleaning may require lubrication, while the station cleans, dries, lubricates and charges with a replaceable alcohol-based cartridge. The foil should never be scrubbed with the cleaning brush, and the station must remain upright so solution does not enter its electronics. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Identify the shaver and cleaning system
Read the type number on the shaver and center. Series 9 generations use different cassettes and station designs even when the names look similar. Confirm that the installed cartridge and cassette are listed for that type. Unplug the cord from the shaver before any manual water cleaning.
Step 2: Choose one cleaning path
Use the station for the automated clean-and-lubricate cycle or clean the shaver manually; do not place a dripping, soap-filled shaver into the center. If the shaver is unusually dirty, remove loose hair first. Keep the center on a flat surface and never tilt it while a cartridge is open.
Step 3: Rinse the operating head for a quick manual clean
Switch the cordless shaver on and rinse the foil head under hot running water. A small amount of non-abrasive liquid soap can be spread over the cassette when a deeper wash is needed. Let the shaver run briefly so lather reaches the cutter block, then rinse until no foam remains.
Step 4: Remove and rinse the cassette
Turn the shaver off, press the cassette-release buttons and lift the foil-and-cutter cassette straight away. Rinse the cassette and exposed head area without pressing on the foils. Shake off water gently. Never clean the cassette foil with the brush because its bristles can deform the precision openings.
Step 5: Use the brush only on dry safe areas
When water is unavailable, remove the cassette and tap loose stubble from it gently. Use Braun's brush on the dry inner head housing, not across the foil or cutter block. Wipe the handle and precision-trimmer channel with a barely damp cloth while keeping the power socket dry.
Step 6: Run the cleaning-center cycle correctly
Remove the cartridge cap, slide the cartridge into the station without spilling and close the housing on a level counter. Wipe the shaver's contacts, insert it head-down in the orientation shown by the station and press start. Allow the selected cleaning and drying program to finish before removing the shaver.
Step 7: Maintain the center and cartridge
Wipe the station exterior and cradle with a soft cloth after unplugging it. Remove loose hairs around the drain opening without pushing debris into the channel. Replace the cartridge when the indicator calls for it or when fluid is depleted or visibly contaminated. Reseal a cartridge with its cap before moving or storing it.
Step 8: Dry and lubricate after manual washing
Leave the cassette separated from the handle until both are completely dry. If the shaver is cleaned regularly under water without the station, follow Braun's instruction to place a drop of light machine oil on the foil or trimmer periodically. Refit the cassette evenly and confirm it clicks on both sides.
