How to Clean a Brother HL-L2395DW Laser Printer

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Choose the symptom and matching procedure
Routine dust, copy streaks, paper-feed slips, vertical print lines, and repeating 3.7-inch dots have different causes. Do not remove the drum for a dirty scanner glass or wet the rollers for a corona-wire message. Print a test page and note whether the defect appears in printing, scanning, or both.
Step 2: Shut down and let the printer cool
Finish printing, press and hold power to turn the HL-L2395DW off, unplug it for routine physical cleaning, and allow recently used internal parts to cool. Remove paper and pull the tray only for the applicable procedure. Never touch the fuser area after printing, and keep loose clothing and jewelry away from the open machine.
Step 3: Clean the exterior and touchscreen dry
Brother says to use a dry soft lint-free cloth on the outside and inside of the machine. Wipe the touchscreen dry only; Brother specifically says not to use liquid cleaner, including ethanol, because it may crack the panel. Do not use spray, alcohol, ammonia, solvent, or a flammable cleaner anywhere on the machine.
Step 4: Clean the scanner glass with controlled water
Lift the document cover and wipe the white plastic backing and scanner glass with a soft lint-free cloth moistened with water. The cloth must not drip and liquid must not run to the glass edge. Finish dry and inspect under angled light. A line in every copy or scan, but not a computer-printed page, points to glass contamination.
Step 5: Clean the paper pickup system
With the machine off, pull the paper tray completely out and remove paper. Brother directs owners to soak a lint-free cloth in lukewarm water, wring it tightly, and wipe dust from the separator pad and two pickup rollers. Rotate only as the guide shows, finish dry, reload flat paper, and push the tray fully home.
Step 6: Remove the toner and drum assembly safely
For interior, corona, or drum work, open the front cover and pull the combined toner-cartridge and drum-unit assembly straight out onto disposable paper. Avoid toner contact and do not touch electrodes or shaded areas. Protect the photosensitive drum from bright room light and never touch its surface with fingers.
Step 7: Clean the corona wire with the green tab
Slide the green corona-wire tab from left to right and back several times. Return it exactly to the Home position, aligning its arrow with the arrow on the drum unit. Brother warns that a tab left away from Home can create a vertical stripe. Reinstall the combined assembly unless drum-dot cleaning is also required.
Step 8: Use Drum Dot Print for repeating marks
If black or white marks repeat every 3.7 inches, use Settings, All Settings, Print Reports, Drum Dot Print, then confirm. The sheet maps the mark to a numbered drum region. Power off, remove the assembly, release the toner with the green lock lever, and rotate the drum only by its end wheel to find the corresponding spot.
Step 9: Clean only the located drum spot dry
Brother instructs owners to wipe the foreign material gently with a dry cotton swab. Do not touch the drum with fingers and do not use liquid, a sharp object, or aggressive pressure. Reinstall the toner until it clicks into the drum, fit the combined assembly, close the cover, and minimize the drum's exposure to light.
Step 10: Reconnect and diagnose remaining defects
Reconnect power, turn on, and print and scan test pages. If vertical lines remain, verify the corona tab is Home and scanner glass is clean. If repeating marks remain after exact Drum Dot cleaning, the drum may need replacement. Toner defects and a contaminated fuser require the guide's replacement or service path, not added liquid or scraping.
