Do not grind away sound metal or twist a battery post in its case. Repeat neutralizer only where residue remains, collecting runoff with disposable towels rather than flooding the battery tray.

Step 7: Wipe and dry every surface

Remove all baking-soda residue and corrosion debris, again preventing liquid from entering the battery. Dry the top, posts, clamps, cable ends and tray thoroughly. Inspect for a loose post, frayed cable, cracked clamp and corrosion that has traveled under insulation. Cleaning the visible end will not correct hidden cable damage or an overcharging system.

Step 8: Reconnect positive, then ground
