How to Clean Covercraft Seat Covers Correctly
Covercraft does not give every seat-cover family the same care path. SeatSaver covers are generally removable and machine washable on a cold gentle cycle with low-sudsing detergent, while Precision Fit covers use foam backing and are intended for vacuuming and material-appropriate spot cleaning; machine washing or drying can damage that backing. That product-family decision is more important than the stain itself. This guide helps identify the label, remove a cover without losing hardware, clean spills without setting them and reinstall only after every layer is dry. Always use the sewn-in label and instructions shipped with your exact fabric when they differ.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Identify SeatSaver versus Precision Fit
Read the label, receipt or Covercraft product page before adding water. SeatSaver and Precision Fit are constructions, not interchangeable marketing names. A Precision Fit cover may have foam backing that can be harmed by machine action and heat. If the identity is uncertain, choose vacuuming and conservative spot cleaning until Covercraft confirms it.
Step 2: Document and remove the cover
Photograph straps, hooks, buckles, armrest openings, headrest pieces and airbag seam orientation. Follow the installation instructions in reverse. Keep hardware in a labeled container and do not pull on seams to free a tight section. Never cover, alter or misroute a side-airbag opening during reinstallation.
Step 3: Vacuum both surfaces
Shake out loose debris outdoors, then vacuum the face, seams and underside with a clean upholstery tool. Lift pet hair with the soft brush rather than adhesive residue or aggressive scraping. Removing grit first prevents it from grinding into the fabric during washing and reveals the actual boundaries of stains.
Step 4: Pretreat conservatively
Blot fresh liquid with a colorfast towel. Test the intended solution on a concealed flap. Avoid bleach, fabric softener and unapproved solvent. Do not saturate a Precision Fit foam-backed section; moisture that enters the foam can dry slowly, distort fit or create odor.
Step 5: Wash a confirmed SeatSaver cover
For a label-confirmed washable SeatSaver, Covercraft specifies cold water, low-sudsing detergent and a gentle cycle. Wash the cover separately or with similar nonabrasive items. Close or protect hook-and-loop pieces so they do not snag fabric. Do not add bleach or fabric softener, and do not iron.
Step 6: Spot-clean a Precision Fit cover
For Precision Fit construction, vacuum and use a damp cloth with a cleaner appropriate to that exact surface. Work from the stain edge inward with small amounts, blotting rather than flooding. Repeat light applications instead of soaking the foam. Covercraft warns that machine washing and drying can damage Precision Fit backing.
Step 7: Rinse or extract residue
On a spot-cleaned panel, blot with a separate cloth barely dampened in clean water. On a washed SeatSaver, let the rinse cycle remove detergent and run an extra cold rinse only if the label permits and suds remain. Cleaner residue can stiffen fibers and attract more soil.
Step 8: Dry according to the product family
Air drying is the safest default. Covercraft permits line drying or low dryer heat for its washable SeatSaver instructions, but high heat is not appropriate. Keep Precision Fit covers out of the dryer. Wait until seams, hems, hook-and-loop zones and any backing feel dry and odor-free, not merely dry on the face.
Step 9: Reinstall and safety-check
Match your photos and the exact instructions. Smooth wrinkles without overstretching, reconnect every strap and confirm the cover cannot interfere with seat tracks, recline controls, buckles, occupancy sensors or airbags. After the first drive, recheck attachment points and stop if the cover shifts.
