How to Clean a Cuisinart Coffee Center SS-15

The Cuisinart Coffee Center SS-15 combines a 12-cup drip coffeemaker with a separate single-serve capsule brewer. Each side has its own reservoir, coffee-contact parts, and descale process: the carafe side uses its CLEAN program, while the single-serve side requires repeated dispensing through its pod water path. Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Power down and empty both sides

Switch the Coffee Center off, unplug it, discard the paper filter and carafe grounds, eject any capsule, and let the heating plate and pod chamber cool. Remove used coffee promptly. Never lift the single-serve handle during brewing because hot water and two sharp puncture needles are inside the chamber.

Step 2: Wash the 12-cup coffee parts

Remove the filter basket, glass carafe, and carafe lid. Wash them in warm soapy water or place approved pieces on the upper dishwasher rack as the SS-15 booklet allows. Rinse and dry. Wipe beneath the basket with a damp cloth, but do not pour water into the machine while the filter basket is removed.

Step 3: Clean the pod holder, funnel, and needles

Open the cool, unplugged single-serve head and pull out the capsule holder by its top. Twist off the funnel, wash both pieces or place them on the top rack as approved, and rinse. To clear a clog, insert a straightened paper clip gently into the exit needle from the holder assembly and the upper piercing needle as the booklet shows. Keep fingers away from both needles.

Step 4: Wash reservoirs, trays, and reusable cup

Clean the single-serve reservoir with a damp lint-free cloth and rinse any removable tank according to the booklet. Wash the drip tray and plate and hand-wash or top-rack-clean the HomeBarista reusable filter cup. Wipe the cooled warming plate and housing with a damp nonabrasive cloth; never immerse the base.

Step 5: Remove charcoal filters before descaling

Each applicable reservoir uses a charcoal filter holder. Remove the filters before either vinegar process so they do not absorb the solution. Replace them at the interval in the manual—commonly 60 days or 60 uses for the carafe side—and prepare a new cartridge exactly as Cuisinart directs before reinserting it after rinsing.

Step 6: Descale the 12-cup carafe side

Fill the carafe-side reservoir to capacity with one-third distilled white vinegar and two-thirds water. Press and hold CLEAN until its LED flashes, release it, and let the cycle finish; the machine beeps five times and shuts off. If CLEAN illuminates again, repeat once with fresh mixture. Then run one full reservoir of fresh cold water.

Step 7: Descale the single-serve side separately

Add 13 fluid ounces of distilled white vinegar and 26 fluid ounces of water to the single-serve reservoir. Put a 16-ounce ceramic mug on the tray. Hold the 6-ounce and 8-ounce buttons together for two seconds to start the SS-15 descale function, discard each mug, and repeat until ADD WATER appears. Never use a paper cup.

Step 8: Run three single-serve freshwater rinses

Discard remaining vinegar, rinse the reservoir, and repeat the single-serve process three times with fresh water in place of vinegar, as the SS-15 booklet directs. Wash the mug and tray, reinstall prepared charcoal filters, and test each side with plain water. Do not make coffee while vinegar odor remains.
