How to Clean a Dreame X40 Ultra and Base Station

Step 1: Pause automation and disconnect power

Let the robot finish any mop-washing or emptying action, pause schedules, remove it from the station, and switch it off. Unplug the base station before touching the washboard, tanks, or suction path. Set the robot on a soft towel so sensors and the mop-extension arms are not scratched.

Step 2: Empty the robot dustbin

Open the robot cover, remove the dustbin and filter, and empty debris into the trash. Rinse the dustbin with clean water only when following Dreame's directions; do not use detergent. Clear its automatic-empty opening and seal. Let the bin dry fully so clumps do not form when suction resumes.

Step 3: Clean and completely dry the filter

Tap loose dust away, rinse the washable filter with clean water, and do not scrub the media with fingers or brushes. Dreame's official maintenance guidance recommends cleaning about every two weeks and replacing about every three months. Shake off water and air-dry completely before reinstalling; a damp filter can cause noise, odor, and restricted airflow.

Step 4: Remove hair from the main and side brushes

Turn the robot over, open the main-brush cover, remove the roller and its end caps, and clear hair from axles and the brush bay. Clean the extending side brush and hub without forcing its arm. Use blunt scissors away from rubber, bristles, belts, and seals, then reinstall every cap and cover securely.

Step 5: Clean the caster, drive wheels, and mop assemblies

Remove hair from the caster axle and wipe drive-wheel treads while turning them. Detach the two mop pads and wash them under the manual's instructions, then clear hair from the pad-holder hubs and extending MopExtend mechanism. Do not pull an extension arm beyond normal travel or flood the motorized joints.

Step 6: Wipe the LDS, camera, sensors, and contacts

Use a soft dry cloth or brush around the LDS cover and wipe the AI camera, structured-light windows, wall and cliff sensors, carpet sensor, and charging contacts. Dreame troubleshooting advises gentle dry cleaning around the laser sensor. Do not spray cleaner, polish the windows, or press down hard on the LDS turret.

Step 7: Empty and rinse both station water tanks

Remove the dirty-water tank, discard wastewater, and rinse the tank, lid, and seal. Rinse the clean-water tank periodically and keep its pickup clear. Use only Dreame-approved solution in the designed detergent system. Vinegar, bleach, essential oil, and foaming household soap can damage pumps and create leaks.

Step 8: Use the app's manual washboard-cleaning mode

Reconnect power only when ready to run the controlled routine. In Dreamehome, select the dock, open Dock Settings, and choose the command to clean the washboard base manually. Follow the on-screen prompts for adding and removing water. Do not simply pour a bucket into the station or let the routine overflow.

Step 9: Brush the washboard and check the dust path

When the app pauses at the safe stage, brush sludge from the washboard, filter, drain, and mop-washing surfaces without damaging seals. Complete the app routine so dirty water is extracted. Unplug again before dry-checking the auto-empty inlet. Replace a full dust bag instead of emptying and reusing it.

Step 10: Dry, reassemble, and test docking

Air-dry the filter, dustbin, mop pads, and rinsed tank parts as required. Reinstall every cap, pad, brush, filter, and tank; make sure the washboard and dust bag are seated. Plug in, power on, and send the robot home. Watch one short mop-wash and emptying cycle for leaks, abnormal noise, or an unseated tank.
