Step 1: Unplug and stabilize the upright

Switch the vacuum off, unplug it, and wind the cord where it cannot be pulled. Return the handle to the upright position and place the machine on a stable floor. Wait for the brush bar to stop before turning the cleaner head over. Never work near the brush mechanism, ball, changeover valve, or hose while power is connected.

Step 2: Empty the clear bin at MAX

Release the cyclone-and-bin assembly and hold it low over a trash container. Operate the red emptying release without reaching through the flap. Do not let debris rise above the MAX mark because packed material can obstruct the shroud. Close the base until it clicks and confirm the assembly locks back onto the machine without forcing it.

Step 3: Wipe the bin and cyclone without soaking

Use a dry microfiber cloth on the cyclone and shroud. If the manual permits the clear bin to be separated, wipe it with a damp cloth and dry completely. Do not wash the cyclone, ball, duct assembly, or motor body and do not place parts in a dishwasher. A brush can loosen exterior dust, but pointed tools can tear seals or damage shroud openings.

Step 4: Remove the washable filters

The Ball Animal 3 uses a pre-filter and a post-filter in separate locations. Open each housing exactly as the support guide illustrates, lift the filter out, and note its orientation. Tap loose dust gently. Keep nonwashable seals and housings dry and do not confuse a filter cover with removable filter media.

Step 5: Rinse filters with water only

Wash approved filters under cold water without detergent. Gently squeeze and rinse repeatedly until the water runs clear. Do not scrub pleats with a brush, add soap, or use a washing machine or dishwasher. Shake excess water out while preserving the filter's shape. Heavy fine-dust use can require more frequent attention than the normal maintenance interval.

Step 6: Dry for at least 24 hours

Place both filters in a warm, ventilated location for a minimum of 24 hours and until every inner layer is dry. Do not use a tumble dryer, radiator, hair dryer, microwave, or oven. The vacuum must not be operated with either filter damp or missing, even for a short test.

Step 7: Check the hose, wand, and changeover path

Detach the wand and hose using the manual's releases. Look through each section and inspect the lower airway and changeover valve for socks, paper, or compacted hair. Remove accessible material from the nearest opening with a blunt tool. Do not puncture the hose, flood an airway, or force an obstruction past a bend toward the motor.

Step 8: Clear the cleaner head and brush bar

Lay the unplugged machine as directed and inspect the brush bar, soleplate, and inlet. Cut visible wrapped hair in short sections, avoiding bristles and the bar surface, then pull it away. Use only the model-approved access procedure for deeper removal. Do not wash the powered cleaner head or apply lubricant to the brush-bar bearings.

Step 9: Clean tools and exterior surfaces

Remove lint from nonpowered tools with a dry brush and wipe hard exteriors with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep moisture out of tool bearings, the cord entry, switches, ball seams, and filter housings. Upholstery and turbine tools may have their own access steps; never assume a powered or air-driven tool is fully washable.

Step 10: Reassemble and test airflow

Install both completely dry filters in the correct orientation, lock the bin assembly, reconnect the hose and wand, and ensure all airway covers are shut. Plug in and test briefly on an appropriate floor. Stop for an unusual whistle, hot smell, weak suction, or brush warning and recheck filter seating and the entire airflow path.
