Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Document the restraint before removal
Take the unoccupied seat out of the vehicle according to its manual. Photograph the headrest, recline, harness slots, buckle position, cover attachments and belt-path configuration. Remove only pad and canopy pieces identified by the exact Extend2Fit instructions; never disassemble the harness or shell beyond the manual.
Step 2: Vacuum crumbs and inspect for damage
Vacuum the seat surface, cup holders, buckle recess and exposed shell. Use a dry soft brush around the adjuster and buckle without pushing tools inside. Check for frayed webbing, cracked plastic, damaged foam or a buckle that fails to latch. A damaged safety component needs Graco guidance, not stronger cleaning.
Step 3: Machine-wash approved pad and canopy pieces
Graco specifies machine washing the seat pad and canopy in cold water on a delicate cycle with gentle soap, followed by drip-drying. Close hook-and-loop fasteners and wash separately. Do not use bleach, harsh detergents or machine heat. Follow a Rapid Remove pad's exact attachment order during removal and refitting.
Step 4: Surface-clean harness and LATCH straps
Use mild soap and a damp cloth to wipe harness and LATCH webbing, then lift soap with another damp cloth and air-dry. Graco says not to immerse these straps. Do not machine-wash, iron, bleach or scrub fibers with a stiff brush; keep the webbing routed through its original hardware.
Step 5: Clean the buckle with warm water only
Place only the buckle body in a cup of warm water, keeping the attached buckle strap out. Agitate the buckle and press the red button several times so crumbs can release. Graco says not to use soap, detergent or lubricant and not to submerge the strap. Shake out water and air-dry completely.
Step 6: Wash plastic and metal surfaces
Wipe the shell, cup holders and accessible metal with mild soap and cool water on a cloth or sponge. Keep water out of the harness adjuster and enclosed structure, and never pour liquid into the seat. Remove residue with a plain damp cloth and towel visible surfaces.
Step 7: Dry each component by its approved method
Drip-dry the pad and canopy and air-dry webbing and buckle. Do not reinstall damp fabric over foam or enclosed shell areas. Test the dry buckle by inserting each tongue and pressing the red release several times; it must click and release positively without lubricant.
Step 8: Reassemble, install and test
Use the manual and photographs to route the cover, crotch buckle and harness through the correct openings. Make sure no fabric blocks belt paths or adjusters. Confirm the harness tightens and releases, the chest clip closes and the buckle latches, then reinstall using the approved method and complete the seat's movement test.
