How to Clean a Hoover CleanSlate Pet Spot Cleaner
The Hoover CleanSlate Pet FH14000 is easier to maintain when the hose is flushed before dirty solution dries inside it. Its removable recovery-tank lid, removable tool inserts, and dedicated Hose Rinse tool are designed to simplify that job, but the powered base and fixed hose still need dry-side care. This guide focuses on the corded FH14000-family CleanSlate Pet with the WidePath tool, TightSpot tool, and Hose Rinse tool. CleanSlate XL and ONEPWR cordless versions can use different tanks or controls. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Turn off and unplug before opening the machine
Release the spray trigger, switch the CleanSlate off, unplug the cord, and set the unit upright on a washable surface. Let the motor stop completely. Check the model label because the tank lid and tool inserts on CleanSlate XL or cordless versions may not release in the same way as the FH14000-family machine.
Step 2: Use the Hose Rinse tool while the system is assembled
Before residue dries, attach the supplied Hose Rinse tool to the hose as Hoover directs. Make sure the clean tank contains enough plain clean water, briefly power the machine, and use the tool to draw rinse water through the hose. Watch the transparent path and stop when major soil is gone. Switch off and unplug again before detaching anything.
Step 3: Empty the dirty-water tank without wetting the base
Remove the recovery tank and carry it level. Lift off its fully removable lid and dispose of wastewater in an appropriate drain. Do not pour with the tank installed or tip liquid across the receiver on the powered base. Empty promptly when the fill limit is reached; allowing the float to shut suction repeatedly can draw foam and residue toward the air path.
Step 4: Wash the recovery tank, lid, and float area
Rinse the tank and lid with lukewarm water. Use a soft brush around corners and the float cage, making sure the float moves normally without forcing it past its stops. Wipe the sealing rim and clear away hair that could create an air leak. A drop of mild dish soap can be used on removable plastic, but rinse until no slippery film or suds remain.
Step 5: Rinse the clean-solution tank and cap
Empty unused mixture instead of storing it in the machine. Rinse the tank, cap, and accessible valve area with clean water. Do not press the valve with a sharp object, soak it in strong chemicals, or fill the operating system with bleach, vinegar, laundry products, or high-foaming soap. Use a Hoover-approved portable-cleaner solution when cleaning surfaces.
Step 6: Separate and clean the WidePath tool
Detach the tool from the hose, then remove the bristle or rubber-nub insert only by its designed release. Rinse the clear suction mouth and both sides of the insert. Brush hair from the channel immediately behind the cleaning edge; a thin ribbon of lint there can leave dirty streaks and make the machine sound normal while extraction remains weak.
Step 7: Clear the TightSpot tool and hose end
Rinse the TightSpot tool from both directions and use a soft brush at its narrow opening. Inspect the hose cuff for trapped fibers and wipe the mating seal. Do not use wire, a knife, or a rigid drain tool inside the hose. If an obstruction cannot be reached without puncturing or disconnecting the fixed hose, stop and use Hoover service guidance.
Step 8: Wipe the tank receiver, housing, and cord
With both tanks removed and the unit unplugged, wipe visible splashes from the tank wells and exterior using a damp cloth, then dry them. Keep water and spray away from vents, the switch, motor openings, cord reel or wraps, and plug. Inspect the cord and hose for cuts or crushing and discontinue use if either is damaged.
Step 9: Dry parts open instead of trapping moisture
Place the recovery tank, lid, solution tank, cap, tools, and inserts separately on a ventilated rack. Let the hose drain naturally and leave its open end exposed until dry. Do not clamp a wet tool into its holder, seal a damp recovery tank, or use direct heat. Trapped water plus carpet residue is the main recipe for a stale odor.
Step 10: Reassemble and perform a seal check
Fit the recovery-tank lid squarely, reinstall the selected tool insert, and seat both tanks until secure. Check that the hose has broad curves rather than a tight kink. Store the machine empty, dry, indoors, and protected from freezing. On the next use, if suction is weak, recheck the recovery lid, float, tool channel, and hose cuff before assuming a motor problem.
