How to Clean an Insta360 X5 After Water, Sand, or Mud

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Cool the camera and verify every cover
Stop recording and power off the X5. If it is warm, remove it from direct sun and let it cool naturally in a ventilated place. Insta360 warns against putting a hot camera into water because a sudden temperature change can encourage moisture ingress. Before rinsing, confirm the battery door and USB cover are completely closed and their indicators show proper locking.
Step 2: Rinse with fresh water
After salt water, pool water, sand, or mud, rinse the fully closed camera in clean fresh water. Use gentle flow rather than a pressure nozzle and do not add detergent. Move no door or cover while submerged. The rinse removes salts and grit that could dry around buttons, microphone openings, lens-guard seams, and waterproof gaskets.
Step 3: Soak for five to ten minutes
Insta360's X5 instructions call for soaking the closed camera in fresh water for five to ten minutes. Use a clean container so grit cannot scratch the lenses. Do not extend the soak unnecessarily, use hot water, or combine it with soap or disinfectant. Keep nonwaterproof accessories, open ports, and a damaged camera out of the water.
Step 4: Dry before opening anything

Step 7: Clear microphone water and openings
Hold and shake the camera gently as the guide permits so water leaves microphone openings, then air-dry. Use a soft dry brush only around accessible edges after drying. Do not insert a pin, swab shaft, or putty and do not blow compressed air into acoustic membranes. Muffled audio immediately after immersion often improves as remaining water evaporates.
Step 8: Inspect battery and USB seals
When the exterior is completely dry, open one compartment at a time and inspect gasket surfaces for hair, sand, cuts, deformation, or moisture. Lift loose dry debris with a clean soft brush. Do not scrape, stretch, grease, or chemically wipe a seal unless Insta360 explicitly directs it. Close each cover until its lock indicator confirms full engagement.
Step 9: Clean mounts, selfie stick, and body
Rinse waterproof mounts separately and dry threads and locking surfaces. Wipe the X5 body with a soft cloth, keeping lens cloths reserved for optics. Remove grit from the mounting thread with a dry brush and do not force a screw through resistance. Store metal accessories dry so corrosion cannot transfer to the camera.
Step 10: Reassemble and make a dry test
