Step 1: Finish the film pack before opening the camera

Turn the lens barrel to Off and check the film counter. Do not open the back merely to clean inside when unused film remains; light will expose the pack and ruin the remaining pictures. Finish the pack normally and wait until the counter confirms it is empty. Work indoors away from blowing dust and remove the batteries before deeper dry cleaning.

Step 2: Blow dust from the lens before wiping

Extend the lens only through its normal On or Close-Up positions when needed, then use a manual camera blower to remove loose grit. Follow with a soft lens brush and clean lens cloth using very light center-to-edge passes. Do not push the barrel sideways, turn it beyond its stops, or wipe visible sand with a dry sleeve.

Step 3: Clean the viewfinder and selfie mirror

Blow dust from the viewfinder windows and selfie mirror, then wipe each with a fresh area of lens cloth. Clean both exterior viewfinder surfaces without inserting a swab into the camera. Do not use window cleaner, eyeglass spray, alcohol, thinner, or abrasive tissue; Fujifilm warns against solvents on Instax cameras.

Step 4: Wipe the flash and exposure windows

Use a soft dry cloth on the flash window and the light-sensing windows identified in the Mini 13 manual. A fingerprint or sticker over a sensor can change automatic exposure. Do not polish with liquid or press on the flash lens. Make sure no strap, tape, or case edge covers these windows after cleaning.

Step 5: Clean the body, controls, and timer lever

Wipe the plastic body, shutter button, lens ring, self-timer lever, and strap area with a soft dry cloth. Use a dry swab around control edges without pushing debris into gaps. Do not spray cleaner onto the camera or use a wet wipe that can carry liquid into the flash capacitor, battery bay, lens barrel, or film mechanism.

Step 6: Open the empty film chamber

Only after the pack is empty, open the back and remove the used cartridge according to Fujifilm's instructions. Hold the camera with the chamber facing down and use a manual blower to lift loose dust outward. Do not touch the shutter mechanism, press internal tabs, or use compressed air that can drive grit deeper.

Step 7: Inspect the ejection slot and rollers

Look through the film exit and inspect accessible roller surfaces for adhesive, dust, or dried residue that could create repeated lines on prints. Use only the roller-cleaning method stated in the Mini 13 manual; if no wet roller procedure is provided, limit work to dry external debris. Never scrape rollers with metal, rotate them forcibly, or flood the film chamber.

Step 8: Clean the battery compartment dry

With batteries removed, inspect contacts for dust, leakage, or corrosion. Lift loose dry debris with a clean swab without bending contacts. Do not add water, alcohol, contact spray, or abrasive metal. A leaking battery or damaged contact needs proper battery handling and service rather than being returned to use after a superficial wipe.

Step 9: Close and reload correctly

Make sure the chamber, ejection path, and door seal area are clean and dry. Install fresh matching batteries in the marked orientation, then load a compatible Instax Mini film pack by aligning its yellow mark with the camera mark. Close the back until it clicks and do not reopen it until the new pack is finished.

Step 10: Eject the cover and inspect the first print

Turn on the camera and press the shutter to eject the black film cover as the manual directs. Do not pull the cover or a developing print from the slot. Check that it exits smoothly and examine the first photograph for repeated lines. Persistent marks after safe chamber cleaning can indicate roller or transport service rather than ordinary dust.
