How to Clean and Descale a JURA E8

The JURA E8 is designed around guided maintenance: its brewing unit stays inside the machine, and the display leads cleaning, milk-system cleaning, filter replacement, and descaling. That is fundamentally different from automatic machines with a removable brew group. Daily tray and milk-path hygiene still happens by hand, but owners should not open the housing or attempt to pull out the E8 brewing unit. Use original JURA maintenance products and follow the display for the specific E8 generation.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Follow startup and shutdown rinses

Keep the drip tray installed and allow the E8 to complete its automatic coffee-system rinses. Do not cut power at the wall before the machine shuts itself down. Empty rinse water regularly and wipe splashes from the spout area. The automatic rinse is routine hygiene, not a replacement for the tablet program or descaling.

Step 2: Empty and wash the tray assembly

When prompted, pull out the drip tray with the coffee-grounds container, empty both, and wash the removable pieces using the exact manual's method. Clean the metal contacts and surrounding recess carefully, then dry them before reinsertion. The machine may not recognize a wet, dirty, or incorrectly seated tray.

Step 3: Clean the milk system every day it is used

Run JURA's milk-system cleaning program after milk preparation, using the stated dose of JURA milk-system cleaner in the supplied or compatible container. Connect the milk pipe as the display shows and let the program draw cleaner and rinse water through the fine-foam frother. Do not substitute dish soap or merely run water through a path that held milk.

Step 4: Dismantle the fine-foam frother as directed

Regularly remove and separate the frother components shown in the manual, rinse them under running water, and soak heavily dried milk residue in the approved milk cleaner if instructed. Clear every air and milk channel without using sharp wire. Reassemble in the correct orientation so seals seat and milk foam remains consistent.

Step 5: Replace the milk pipe and filter on schedule

JURA advises replacing the milk pipe about every three months with normal use, sooner if it hardens, discolors, cracks, or cannot be cleaned. Replace a CLEARYL Smart filter when the display requests it and confirm the machine recognizes it. A filter reduces scale exposure but does not clean coffee oils or milk residue.

Step 6: Run the prompted 3-phase tablet program

When the E8 asks for cleaning, fill the tank, empty the tray, place a vessel under the coffee spouts, and start Clean from the maintenance menu. Add one JURA 3-phase cleaning tablet only when the display requests it—typically through the ground-coffee funnel. Follow every prompt and do not add extra tablets, pre-ground coffee, or household cleaner.

Step 7: Descale only when required by the configuration

If the E8 is operated without an active compatible filter and requests descaling, remove any filter and dissolve the specified number of JURA descaling tablets in the stated water volume. Start Descale from the maintenance menu, position containers under the prompted outlets, and follow the display. Keep descaling liquid away from sensitive stone, metal, and skin, and wipe splashes promptly.

Step 8: Never remove the brewing unit

The E8 brewing unit is not a user-removable part. JURA describes it as maintenance-free through integrated programs. Do not open the case, rinse an internal brew group, or copy a removable-group procedure from another brand. If a guided clean cannot restore normal flow or an error persists, contact JURA service.
