Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Finish by flushing out detergent
While the machine is still connected and operating normally, remove detergent from the pickup system as the manual directs and run clean fresh water through the low-pressure detergent path. Kärcher recommends a fresh-water rinse after using cleaning agent so residue does not clog the system. Never combine leftover products in the tank or hose, and dispose of solution according to its label.
Step 2: Shut down and release stored pressure
Turn the washer off, unplug it with dry hands, close the water supply, and squeeze the trigger until pressure is relieved, following the model's order. Engage the trigger lock. A silent machine can still hold high pressure, so do not loosen a hose, lance, filter, or fitting until the system is depressurized and cool.
Step 3: Disconnect and drain accessories
Remove the garden hose, high-pressure hose, spray gun, lance, and detergent container only in the approved sequence. Point fittings away from people while releasing residual water. Inspect O-rings, couplers, and hose ends for grit, flattening, cracks, or cuts. Do not use a damaged high-pressure hose or repair one with tape.
Step 4: Clean the water-inlet sieve
On applicable Smart Control models, Kärcher says to unscrew the water connection by hand, pull the sieve with flat-nose pliers, rinse it under running water, then reinstall it and the connection. Other models use a different filter or access method. Do not stab the mesh, run the machine without it, or drop debris into the open inlet.
Step 5: Check nozzles and spray lances
Rinse loose dirt from disconnected accessories. If pressure is uneven, inspect the nozzle opening in good light and use only the supplied cleaning tool and direction specified in the manual. Do not enlarge an orifice with a drill bit, pin, or wire. A turbo nozzle contains moving parts and may require replacement or authorized service rather than disassembly.
Step 6: Wipe the housing and ventilation areas
Use a soft, slightly damp cloth on the unplugged exterior and a soft brush around dry ventilation slots. Never turn the pressure stream on the machine itself, cord, plug, gun controls, or electrical connections. Avoid solvent, abrasive cleaner, and compressed air that can force dirt inward. Let the housing dry before winding the cable.
Step 7: Drain without running the pump dry
Follow the exact post-use procedure. Kärcher's Smart Control guidance says to disconnect from the water supply, briefly operate and squeeze the gun until no more water exits, then switch off; maximum times and steps can differ by model. Do not repeatedly run a pump without water in an attempt to make it perfectly dry.
Step 8: Coil hoses without sharp bends
Lay the high-pressure hose straight enough to release twists, then store it on the machine or reel with broad curves. Keep couplers clean and capped where provided. Do not kink the hose, crush it beneath the washer, or pull the machine by it. Route the power cable separately so plugs and insulation are not strained.
Step 9: Protect the machine from freezing
Kärcher directs owners to store pressure washers dry and protected from frost. Residual water can freeze, expand, and damage the pump or fittings. Use the winterizing procedure and pump protector approved for the exact model if freezing exposure is possible. Cleaning cannot reverse a cracked pump body, leaking connection, or electrical fault.
