How to Clean Kegco Kegerator Beer Lines and Faucet

A wiped drip tray does not clean the inside of a kegerator's beer line. That requires the right line cleaner, contact time, hardware cleaning, and a verified water rinse. This guide covers a simple direct-draw Kegco setup using a compatible hand-pump kit connected at the coupler end of the beer line. It is not a procedure for commercial long-draw systems, glycol circuits, or a cleaning bottle powered by CO2.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Match the kit, cleaner, and system

Identify the liquid line that runs from the keg coupler to the faucet. Do not confuse it with the gas line. The Kegco KPCK32-style kit connects to the beer line after it is disconnected from the coupler; some other kits attach at the faucet end. Confirm the actual fitting and pump capacity supplied with yours rather than combining instructions from both designs. Read the chemical label for dilution, water temperature, contact time, and rinse requirements. A sanitizer and a line cleaner are not automatically interchangeable products.

Step 2: Take the tap out of service and isolate the keg

Mark the faucet so nobody tries to pour a drink during cleaning. Turn off the gas supply and disengage the coupler from the keg using its normal untapping procedure. Release pressure remaining in the dispensing line through the faucet into the catch bucket before loosening that line's fitting. Leave the keg valve closed; do not dismantle it. Disconnect the beer line from the coupler, keeping track of its washer, and connect the line to the compatible hand-pump kit. Do not attach CO2 to a manually pressurized bottle or exceed the pump's operating instructions.

Step 3: Pre-rinse, then introduce the measured cleaning solution

Use the pump with fresh water first to displace beer into the catch bucket. Relieve the pump pressure as its instructions require before opening it for refilling. Prepare the line cleaner at the label's measured dilution, then pump it through until it has displaced the rinse water throughout the line. Keep the outlet contained and do not collect it in a drinking glass. Use the required contact time instead of treating one quick pass as complete cleaning. Do not add acid, bleach, vinegar, or a second product to strengthen the mixture. Stay with the setup while chemicals are in the dispensing path.

Step 4: Clean the faucet and coupler as separate components

Once the prescribed line-cleaning contact period is complete, drain and depressurize the setup before loosening hardware. Remove the faucet with the proper wrench and disassemble only as its own instructions show. Lay seals, washers, and other small parts in order. Clean accessible faucet and coupler surfaces with the correct cleaner and nylon brush, then rinse thoroughly. Pay attention to recesses that a liquid flush cannot scrub mechanically. Do not dismantle the regulator or substitute a metal pick for a suitable brush. Refit the faucet before the final line rinse so water passes through the complete dispensing path.

Step 5: Flush with clean water and verify the rinse

Empty and rinse the cleaning bottle, refill it with fresh water, and flush the line and reassembled faucet. Continue until visible debris is gone and cleaner has been removed. The Brewers Association manual specifies comparing the pH of water leaving the line with a reference sample of the incoming tap water. Match that baseline; do not insist on exactly pH 7 if the local water differs. Follow any additional verification specified by your cleaner. Never taste rinse water to check it, and never use beer to push cleaning chemical out of a line.

Step 6: Inspect parts and reconnect without trapping residue

Check the rinsed coupler, faucet, beer line, and washers for damaged seals, cracks, or deposits that remain after the proper procedure. Replace the correct worn part rather than tightening a joint harder to compensate. With the pump depressurized, disconnect it and reconnect the beer line to the coupler using the proper washer and fitting. Restore the coupler to the keg and return the gas supply and regulator to the established settings for the system. Check connections for leaks and use the regulator manufacturer's method for any gas-leak check. Do not change pressure simply because the first rinse-displaced pour is foamy.

Step 7: Finish the cleanup and record the next due date

Dispose of used solution according to its label and local requirements. Wash the drip tray and wipe spills from the accessible cabinet surfaces; those tasks complement line cleaning but do not replace it. Clean and store the kit according to its instructions so the next session does not begin with residue in the bottle or brush. Kegco recommends cleaning at each keg change or every two weeks, whichever comes first. Also address a system that has sat unused. If a correctly cleaned line still produces foam or off-flavors, check temperature, system balance, and component condition rather than assuming another stronger chemical mix is needed.

How often should I clean Kegco beer lines?
Kegco recommends after each keg or at least every two weeks. Use the earlier trigger. A slowly consumed keg does not mean the line can wait until it is empty, and an unused system needs attention before returning to service.
Can I clean the line without removing the faucet?
Some Kegco kits can flush through an installed faucet, but that does not remove the need for separate hardware cleaning. Deposits inside faucet and coupler components need access and brushing according to their own service instructions.
Does the pump connect to the faucet or the coupler?
It depends on the kit. The direct-line hand-pump design covered here connects to the beer line removed from the coupler. Faucet-end gravity and hand-pump kits use a different route. Confirm the actual fittings before starting.
Can I use dish soap instead of beer-line cleaner?
Do not substitute it for the specified line-cleaning chemistry. Use a compatible dedicated cleaner at its labeled concentration. Ordinary dish soap, sanitizer, and alkaline line cleaner have different purposes and are not interchangeable by assumption.
How much beer-line cleaner should I add?

How do I know the cleaner is rinsed out?
Flush with fresh water and compare outlet-water pH with a reference sample of the incoming rinse water, following the cleaner's instructions as well. Clear-looking water alone is not a chemical check. Do not taste it.
Should I clean the CO2 regulator with line solution?
No. This procedure is for the beverage path, not the gas system. Do not send cleaning liquid into the regulator or gas line. Follow the gas equipment's own maintenance instructions if it is contaminated or malfunctioning.
What if the beer still foams after line cleaning?
Cleaning does not correct every temperature or balance problem. Check the established serving setup, temperature, leaks, and component condition. Keep chemical cleaning and pressure adjustment separate so a change in one does not hide a problem in the other.
