How to Clean a LINE-X Bedliner Safely

LINE-X bedliner is durable, but its textured surface traps clay, mulch, salt and spill residue in valleys that a quick rinse can miss. LINE-X officially permits soap, water and a stiff-bristle brush and allows pressure washing only with a wide fan pattern below 1,000 psi. A newly installed coating also has a cure gate: LINE-X says it is about 80 percent cured at pickup, ready for light duty, but heavy loads should wait 24 hours. This guide covers an intact professional LINE-X bedliner. A cut, lifted edge, exposed substrate, chemical attack or large hazardous spill needs the installer or an appropriate cleanup professional rather than harder scrubbing.

Quick reference

Routine wash
Mild soap, water and a stiff nylon-bristle brush.
Pressure limit
Wide fan pattern below 1,000 psi, moving continuously.
New coating
Follow installer cure time; LINE-X says wait 24 hours before heavy loads.
Spills
Identify, absorb and dispose correctly before controlled washing.
Stop when
Coating is lifted, soft, swollen, deeply cut or exposing the substrate.

What you will need

  • LINE-X care guidance and installer information for the exact coating
  • Broom or vacuum for loose dry debris
  • Water and mild vehicle-safe soap
  • Stiff nylon-bristle brush
  • Garden hose with a fan nozzle
  • Pressure washer only if held below 1,000 psi in a wide fan
  • Absorbent material for fresh spills
  • Gloves and eye protection appropriate to the soil
  • Clean towels and open-air drying time

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Confirm cure time and coating condition

If the liner was just installed, ask the LINE-X dealer when it may be washed. LINE-X says the coating is about 80 percent cured when the truck is picked up and should have 24 hours before rocks, rubble or other heavy loads. Inspect older coating for gouges, bubbles, lifted edges, exposed metal and unusual whitening. Cleaning is not a repair; document damage before water hides it.

Step 2: Empty the bed and remove dry debris

Take out cargo, mats, tie-down accessories that are designed to be removed and anything that could trap water. Sweep or vacuum gravel, screws, leaves and soil from corners, drain paths and texture valleys. Pick up sharp metal by hand with gloves rather than dragging it across the coating. Keep debris out of storm drains and dispose of contaminated sweepings appropriately.

Step 3: Identify spills before adding water

Do not rinse an unknown chemical into the environment. Read the product label and safety data for oil, fuel, paint, pesticide or industrial material, absorb the free liquid and use the required disposal method. LINE-X says chemical spills should be cleaned promptly and notes that chlorine can bleach the surface. If the coating is soft, swollen, sticky or discolored, contact the installer.

Step 4: Pre-rinse with controlled water

Park where runoff is permitted and open factory drain paths. Use a garden hose to rinse from the cab end toward the tailgate, keeping water out of electrical outlets, cameras, tonneau electronics and unsealed accessory holes. A pre-rinse floats away sand that would otherwise grind under a brush. Do not direct a concentrated nozzle under coating edges.

Step 5: Wash with soap and a nylon brush

Mix a modest amount of mild vehicle-safe soap with water. LINE-X permits a stiff-bristle brush; choose nylon rather than a sharp wire brush. Work manageable sections in several directions so bristles reach the texture. Give extra attention to corners and around tie-downs without levering against seals. Do not use abrasive blasting, strong solvent or a caustic degreaser unless the installer approves it.

Step 6: Pressure-wash only inside LINE-X limits

For compacted soil, LINE-X allows pressure washing with a wide fan pattern below 1,000 psi. Verify the machine's setting, begin at a generous distance and keep the wand moving. Never use a zero-degree tip or hold the jet against an edge, seam, drain plug, wiring opening or existing defect. A stronger machine is not made safe simply by standing slightly farther away.

Step 7: Rinse until residue is gone

Flush soap and released soil toward the tailgate using broad low pressure. Inspect texture valleys from several angles for remaining foam or oily rainbowing. Repeat the soap-and-brush step locally instead of increasing pressure. Keep runoff from waterways and stop immediately if a previously hidden coating defect appears.

Step 8: Dry and inspect the bed

Let water drain, then towel low spots, around hardware and near electrical accessories. Leave the bed open in moving air. Check the liner for a consistent texture and firm bond. White patches may be mineral or soap residue, chemical bleaching or physical wear; do not cover the symptom with glossy tire dressing or oil, which makes the bed slippery and attracts dirt.

Step 9: Refit cargo only when dry

Reinstall clean, dry accessories and verify every tie-down and drain opening. Make sure no soap remains where cargo or footwear needs grip. A normal automatic car wash is permitted by LINE-X for the liner, but the truck's accessories and vehicle maker may impose other restrictions. For lifted coating, exposed substrate or persistent chemical odor, return to a LINE-X dealer.

Specific cleaning questions

Open a question for a concise answer about stains, odors, safety, frequency, and troubleshooting.

Can I pressure-wash a LINE-X bedliner?
Yes, LINE-X permits a wide fan pattern below 1,000 psi. Keep it moving and away from edges, seams, accessories and damaged areas.
What brush should I use on LINE-X?
LINE-X allows a stiff-bristle brush. A stiff nylon brush reaches texture without the cutting action of wire bristles.
How soon can a new LINE-X liner get wet?
Ask the installer for the exact cure window. LINE-X says the coating is about 80 percent cured at pickup and heavy loads should wait 24 hours.
Can a LINE-X bedliner go through a car wash?
LINE-X says its bedliner is car-wash safe, but check restrictions for tonneau covers, racks, electronics and the vehicle itself.
How do I clean oil from LINE-X?
Absorb free oil first, follow disposal rules, then use installer-approved soap or degreaser. Prevent runoff and stop if the coating softens or changes.
Will chlorine bleach LINE-X?
LINE-X warns that chlorine may bleach the surface. Clean spills promptly and contact the installer if discoloration or coating damage remains.
Can I use tire shine on a bedliner?
Avoid oily or glossy dressings. They make the bed slippery, attract dust and can hide residue or coating defects.
What if the LINE-X is peeling?
Do not pressure-wash beneath a lifted edge. Photograph the area, keep it from further damage and consult the LINE-X installer about repair or warranty.
