How to Clean a Logitech MX Master 3S Mouse
The Logitech MX Master 3S collects skin oil on its textured shell, dust around the MagSpeed wheel and thumb wheel, debris along button gaps, and fibers near its optical sensor and glide feet. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Switch off and disconnect the mouse
Save work, switch the MX Master 3S off, unplug its USB-C cable, and move the Logi Bolt receiver away from cleaning liquid. Let the mouse cool after charging. Place it on a clean cloth with the sensor protected from grit. Do not press controls while fluid is near their edges.
Step 2: Inspect high-soil areas
Look at the palm shell, thumb rest, left and right buttons, top and thumb wheels, gesture button, seam around the base, glide feet, sensor window, and USB-C opening. Note any spilled liquid, cracked shell, lifting foot, or wheel that is mechanically stuck; those conditions may require service rather than a stronger cleaning method.
Step 3: Remove loose dust dry
Turn the mouse so each seam faces downward and brush across it with a clean soft brush. Rotate the wheels slowly while brushing their external surfaces. Use a manual rubber blower gently from outside if needed. Do not use high-pressure canned air, which can force debris deeper or expel cold propellant.
Step 4: Prepare Logitech's approved solution
Use a common cleaning solution containing 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water, matching Logitech's MX Master 3S guidance. Do not substitute a higher-concentration alcohol, ethanol blend, methanol, acetone, solvent, bleach, or household spray. Apply the solution to a cloth, never directly to the mouse.
Step 5: Wipe the shell and thumb rest
Dampen a microfiber corner and wring it until it cannot drip. Wipe the palm surface, sides, and thumb rest with light passes. Do not scrub the textured coating aggressively or allow solution to pool at seams. Use a clean cloth section as oil lifts, then finish with a dry microfiber cloth.
Step 6: Clean button and wheel edges
Use a barely damp cotton swab along the outside of button gaps and wheel surfaces, keeping the swab parallel to the seam. Rotate each wheel slowly to expose its full circumference. Immediately follow with a dry swab. Do not push a swab, paper edge, or liquid beneath a button or into the wheel axle.
Step 7: Clean the sensor and glide feet
Turn the powered-off mouse over. Blow loose dust away with the manual blower and wipe around—not into—the optical sensor with a dry swab. Clean glide feet with a slightly damp cloth, then dry them. Avoid scratching the sensor window or lifting the feet, whose edges and adhesive affect tracking and glide.
Step 8: Clear the USB-C opening dry
Hold the front port downward and brush loose lint at the opening with a clean dry soft brush. Do not place alcohol solution, a metal pin, wood splinter, adhesive putty, or cotton fibers in the connector. If a cable will not seat after external debris is removed, use Logitech support instead of digging against contacts.
Step 9: Let all surfaces dry
Leave the mouse switched off at room temperature until the shell, wheel seams, feet, and USB-C opening are dry. Do not use a hair dryer, radiator, intense sun, or a heated drying cabinet. Wipe the charging cable plug and receiver dry before reconnecting them.
Step 10: Test tracking and controls
Switch on and test pointer movement, left and right click, side buttons, both scroll wheels, gesture control, and charging. If a control remains sticky, do not add more fluid; repeated liquid can carry grime into a switch.
