How to Clean a Nanit Pro Camera and Stand Safely

Step 1: Pause monitoring and disconnect power

Use the app to note current status, then unplug the Nanit from power before touching the camera or stand. Tell other caregivers monitoring is temporarily unavailable. If wall-mounted, use safe access and support the camera rather than pulling against the cable. Do not reposition a stand, loosen wall hardware or disconnect a USB-C plug with wet hands. Cleaning creates a monitoring interruption; complete the work and restore the system promptly rather than leaving the camera unpowered without notice.

Step 2: Remove loose dust before wiping the lens

Inspect the lens and surrounding bezel under angled light. Use a clean air bulb or very light dry-cloth pass to lift loose particles before applying wiping pressure. Do not blow with your mouth, use canned propellant or brush grit across the lens. Keep fingers off the glass. If dust appears behind the lens or inside a vent, do not open the camera housing; internal contamination is a support issue rather than an invitation to remove screws.

Step 3: Use a dry microfiber cloth on the camera

Nanit says the camera can be cleaned with a dry cloth or ordinary microfiber cloth similar to one for eyeglasses. Fold a clean section over a fingertip and wipe the lens gently from center outward, then use another section on the housing. Do not spray the cloth while beside the unit, add alcohol or use a premoistened wipe. A small smear should yield to repeated dry passes without pressure that shifts camera alignment.

Step 4: Dry-clean vents, ports and seams

Use the clean dry cloth and controlled air to remove accessible dust around vents and the USB-C connection. Keep fibers and tools out of the port and do not scrape a contact. Wipe cable surfaces only while disconnected and inspect for cuts or strain. Never immerse the camera, run it under water or force debris through a vent. A blocked port or damaged cable needs the correct replacement rather than solvent, lubricant or a bent pin.

Step 5: Wipe the stand without disturbing setup

Use a second dry soft cloth on the wall stand, floor stand or flex stand. Support joints and avoid changing height, cable routing or tip resistance. Keep the temperature and humidity sensing area unobstructed; Nanit troubleshooting can require unplugging and reseating the camera, but cleaning should not cover sensors or vents. Do not wet-mop around a floor stand while power connections are exposed, and do not hang accessories from the stand after wiping.

Step 6: Reconnect and verify alignment

Reconnect the dry camera firmly to its stand and restore power. Wait for normal status, then view the live image and confirm the crib or sleep area framing still matches the installation guidance. If the camera was removed or shifted, verify height, angle, cable security and wall hardware. Do not align it while leaning unsafely over the sleep space. A clear lens is not enough if cleaning left the camera loose, misaligned or disconnected from environmental readings.

Step 7: Check monitoring and record unresolved faults

Confirm video, night vision, audio and applicable temperature or humidity readings return normally. Allow stabilization time before judging a sensor inaccurate. If smearing remains beneath the lens, the port will not connect or the camera repeatedly resets, use Nanit support rather than introducing liquid cleaner. Store the microfiber cloth clean and dry so grit is not returned next time. Routine dusting should be brief, dry and followed by a complete monitoring check.
