Step 1: Identify the mode and stop before opening the machine

Determine whether George was collecting dry dust, wet spills, or sprayed cleaning solution. Turn off and unplug before unlatching the head, changing components, or investigating suction loss. Keep the power head, plug, and cable away from wash water. If foam or liquid has come from the exhaust, stop immediately and follow Numatic's fault guidance; do not continue as though the drum simply needs a rinse. Check for damaged wiring, cracked parts, or an unsafe float before planning the next use.

Step 2: Flush the solution system after spray extraction

Numatic directs flushing with clean water after use. Perform that operational flush only with the machine correctly assembled in its wet/extraction configuration, the proper float fitted, and the spray tool aimed into an appropriate collection area. Use the supplied operating sequence rather than pumping water through an open machine. Do not add a homemade vinegar or bleach mixture to the pump. Once the flush is finished, switch off and unplug again before disconnecting tools, unlatching the head, or emptying the recovered water.

Step 3: Empty the drum and removable solution container

Place the unplugged power head in a safe dry position and remove the wet-use components as shown in the manual. Empty recovered liquid through an appropriate disposal route, following the cleaner label and local requirements rather than pouring it into a storm drain. Rinse the removable drum and solution container to remove sludge and residual cleaner. Wipe accessible corners and sealing rims gently. Do not immerse the power head or direct a pressure washer into electrical parts, even though George is designed for wet pickup.

Step 4: Clean and inspect the wet float assembly

Clean accessible debris from the removable wet float assembly and check its movement and condition using the Numatic GVE wet/dry maintenance diagrams. The float limits liquid pickup as the drum fills. Do not use the machine wet if the float is absent, damaged, or not functioning. A change in motor pitch with lost wet suction can mean the float has operated, so empty and investigate while unplugged rather than forcing more liquid into the machine.

Step 5: Clear and clean the hose, tubes, and extraction tools

Check the floor tool, wand, hose, and spray attachment for hair, grit, and blockages. Disconnect parts by their intended fittings and clean accessible wet-use surfaces without stretching small solution lines or losing seals. Keep the spray outlet directed safely during any later functional test. A blocked spray nozzle differs from an empty solution tank; repeated pumping is not a substitute for identifying which problem is present. Let rinsed wet-use tools drain and dry before putting them into enclosed storage.

Step 6: Handle the dry-use bag and filter as separate parts

After dry use, remove a full or damaged disposable bag, close it for disposal, and fit the correct new bag. Keep the dry filter clean using the manual's dry maintenance approach; do not assume it is washable because George also has a wet mode. Do not rinse a dust-filled bag or soak the dry filter with the wet components. If airflow remains weak with a sound bag and clear hose, inspect filter condition and obtain Numatic's replacement advice for a persistently blocked or damaged part.

Step 7: Dry completely and rebuild for the next task

Wipe and air-dry the cleaned drum, hose, tools, and removable components. Before dry vacuuming, ensure the recovery path is dry and refit the proper dry bag and filter. Before wet work, use the correct wet assembly and functioning float instead. Check every latch and connection, and inspect the cable again before plugging in. Store the machine indoors with no trapped dirty liquid. Never add scent beads or air-freshener capsules to the top filter; Numatic specifically excludes those foreign objects.
