How to Clean a Peloton Row Seat and Rail
The Peloton Row has a seat-and-rail system whose hidden track surfaces collect dust, hair and dried sweat. Peloton's instructions use a damp cloth or mild household cleaner but exclude bleach, ammonia, abrasives and lubricant. The monthly deeper process can include separating the rail from the base and drawing a cotton ball or towel through the track. This page focuses on cleaning those user-serviceable parts while keeping the powered base, touchscreen, strap mechanism and internal resistance system dry.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Power down and clear the rail
Finish the workout, let the handle retract normally, shut the Row down and unplug it. Remove bottles, a phone and any accessory from the area. Slide the seat only as the official instructions allow and make sure no person can pull the handle while you work. Never clean a moving seat or open powered base.
Step 2: Remove loose debris
Vacuum the floor around and beneath the machine, then collect dry hair and dust from accessible rail edges. Use low suction and keep the nozzle outside the base, strap slot, speaker openings and electronics. Removing grit first prevents it from being dragged along the rail by a damp cloth or seat wheel.
Step 3: Wipe the handle and sweat-contact surfaces
Put water or a little mild household cleaner on a cloth. Wipe the handle, seat top, frame, foot areas and adjustment touchpoints, then dry them. Do not spray the machine. Exclude bleach, ammonia, abrasives and oil-based dressings; they can affect finishes or leave a grip and seat dangerously slick.
Step 4: Clean the screen without flooding it
Use a separate clean microfiber cloth that is only slightly damp. Wipe the touchscreen gently and dry it immediately. Keep moisture away from its edges, ports, microphone, speakers and pivot hardware. If a dried spot persists, repeat a light pass rather than using a scraper or household glass spray.
Step 5: Wipe the exposed rail surfaces
Move the seat through its normal range to reveal accessible sections, keeping fingers clear of wheels and pinch points. Wipe the top and outer rail surfaces from back to front, changing to a clean section of cloth when it becomes dirty. Dry the rail fully. Do not apply lubricant, wax or silicone; Peloton specifically keeps the rail and seat interface clean and dry.
Step 6: Perform the monthly track cleaning
For the deeper scheduled clean, follow Peloton's rail-removal procedure and use enough clear floor space to support the component. Pass a cotton ball or a narrow clean towel through the full upper and lower track as directed, moving from back toward the front. Repeat until it emerges clean rather than pushing accumulated grit farther into the path.
Step 7: Inspect the seat wheels
With the rail accessible, examine the visible wheels and their edges for wound hair, compacted dust, chips or flat spots. Remove only loose surface debris that can be reached without disassembling the seat carriage. A wheel that binds, wobbles or has structural damage is a service item, not something to free with oil.
Step 8: Reassemble and dry-check
Reconnect the rail to the base exactly as Peloton shows, confirming that all locks or fasteners are fully seated. Make sure no cloth, cotton or hair remains in the track. Slide the seat slowly by hand through its travel and listen for scraping. Keep the Row unplugged until every cleaned area is dry.
Step 9: Run a low-effort function check
Restore power, let the Row start normally and complete a short gentle test. Confirm that the seat rolls smoothly, the handle and strap retract evenly, the screen responds and no cleaner odor or moisture appears near the base. Stop for clicking, binding, frayed strap material or an error message and contact Peloton rather than opening the resistance housing.
