How to Clean a Rad Power E-Bike Safely
A Rad Power Bike should not be washed like an ordinary outdoor machine. Rad's official cleaning guidance says to turn the bike off and not use a hose or direct spray of water or liquid on the bike or electrical components; electrical parts must never be submerged. The frame and battery exterior can be wiped with a clean damp cloth, while chain degreaser goes onto a rag rather than being sprayed directly at the drivetrain. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Power down and inspect
Move the bike to a stable ventilated work area, turn it off and remove the key where applicable. Follow the exact manual on whether the battery should remain locked in place or be removed for service. Look for impact damage, a swollen or leaking battery, burned connectors, cut wiring or loose parts before cleaning.
Step 2: Keep direct water away
Rad says not to use a hose or directly spray water or liquid onto the bike or electrical components and never to submerge electrical parts. Do not pressure-wash it. Prepare cloths away from the bike and wring them well so water cannot run toward the display, controller, motor, charging port or connectors.
Step 3: Remove loose dry dirt
Use a soft dry brush and cloth to lift dust from the frame, racks and fenders. Brush away from electrical seams and disc-brake surfaces. Around the battery area or terminals, Rad calls for a non-conductive brush or dry cloth. Do not insert metal tools or bridge contacts.
Step 4: Wipe the frame and battery exterior
Use a clean damp—not dripping—cloth on the frame. Rad also permits a clean damp cloth on the battery exterior. Follow immediately with a dry cloth and keep the charging port closed as designed. Do not put cleaner into buttons, seams, key cylinders, cable entries or battery rails.
Step 5: Clean the drivetrain without overspray
Shield the brake rotor and tire. Rad's chain process puts bicycle degreaser onto a clean rag rather than spraying it directly onto the chain. Hold the rag around the lower chain run and rotate the cranks backward, keeping fingers, clothing and wires clear of moving parts.
Step 6: Work stubborn chain soil mechanically
Use a bike-specific brush or a clean section of rag for accumulated grime while keeping liquid controlled. Do not flood the motor area, bottom bracket or hub. Keep all degreaser off rotors, pads and tire tread. A belt-drive Rad model needs its own manual path and should not receive chain lubricant.
Step 7: Lubricate the clean chain
After the chain is clean and dry, apply one small drop of suitable bicycle lubricant to each roller while backpedaling. Let it penetrate for the label's time, then wipe the outside of the chain thoroughly. Excess exterior oil attracts grit and can be flung toward brakes.
Step 8: Dry and inspect connections
Wipe every cleaned surface dry and leave the bike in room-temperature moving air. Do not use a heater or compressed air to drive water into gaps. Confirm battery rails, contacts and the charging port are clean, dry and undamaged before reconnecting or charging; never charge a wet or suspect battery.
Step 9: Perform a pre-ride check
Test brakes, tire pressure, wheel security, steering, lights and controls according to the manual. Power on only when all components are dry. If the display reports an error, a brake surface is contaminated, or battery damage is suspected, do not ride or charge; contact Rad or a qualified e-bike technician.
