How to Clean a Rainbow SRX Vacuum
The Rainbow SRX uses water as its primary dirt separator, so cleanup cannot wait until the next vacuuming session. Dirty water left in the basin develops odor, while residue on the high-speed separator can affect airflow. Rainbow provides dedicated use-and-care procedures for emptying the basin, removing and cleaning the separator, storing the SRX after every use and replacing—not casually washing—the model's HEPA Neutralizer. Its power nozzle adds a brush roll and belt that stay dry. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Power off, unplug and separate the system
Turn the SRX off, unplug it and disconnect the electric hose and powered accessories using their release controls. Lift the power unit straight from the water basin and set it upright in a dry location. Never place the motor unit on a wet floor, rinse it or leave it connected while working around the separator.
Step 2: Strain and discard dirty basin water
Carry the basin level to the disposal area. Rainbow's strainer is designed so basin contents can be poured through it, larger debris captured for the garbage and wastewater disposed separately. Follow local rules for unusual debris. Do not pour fibers, grit or pet hair into a drain, and never store the SRX with dirty water inside.
Step 3: Rinse and wipe the water basin
Rinse the emptied basin with clean water and wipe film from its interior, dome and rim using a soft cloth. Avoid abrasives that cloud or scratch the basin and do not use a dishwasher. Rinse until residue and odor are gone, then invert it at an angle where air reaches the bottom and rim.
Step 4: Remove the separator with the supplied tool
Keep the power unit unplugged and use the Rainbow separator wrench exactly as the SRX manual or care video shows. Hold the separator securely, loosen its nut and remove the separator without bending fins or striking the motor shaft. Do not substitute pliers, run the motor with the separator removed or lose the model-specific nut.
Step 5: Clean and reinstall the separator
Use the supplied separator brush and clean water as the manual directs to clear buildup from the fins and center. Avoid sharp picks that alter balance. Rinse away loosened residue and dry the part, then reinstall it in the correct orientation and tighten with the supplied wrench to the documented fit without overtightening.
Step 6: Inspect the HEPA Neutralizer separately
Access the SRX HEPA Neutralizer only through the manual's panel sequence. Do not rinse or improvise filter washing. Rainbow sells it as a replacement component and its FAQ gives a general replacement point after five years of use, subject to condition and model guidance. Replace damaged, wet or persistently restricted media with the correct genuine part.
Step 7: Clear the dry hose and attachments
Inspect non-powered wands and tools for accessible lint, removing it from the nearest opening without a sharp rod. Keep the electric hose connector and controls dry. Accessories such as AquaMate, RainJet and MiniJet have separate liquid-path cleaning instructions and should not be treated as ordinary dry SRX tools in this procedure.
Step 8: Clean the power-nozzle brush path
With the nozzle disconnected from power, remove wrapped hair from accessible brush-roll grooves and end areas using fingers or blunt scissors. Check the belt arrangement against the exact pre-2023 or 2023-plus manual. Wipe the housing dry and keep water out of the nozzle. Replace a worn belt rather than applying oil or solvent.
Step 9: Dry and store the system after every use
Let the basin, separator and non-electrical washed parts dry completely. Store the dry basin and motor unit in the configuration shown in Rainbow's after-use video so air circulation is not trapped. Keep the hose relaxed and contacts dry. Before the next job, fill the basin only to the manual's level and confirm the separator is installed.
