How to Clean a reMarkable Paper Pro
The reMarkable Paper Pro's textured color display is designed to feel unlike glossy tablet glass, while its Marker and Book Folio use different materials and different chemical restrictions. reMarkable says to turn the tablet off and unplug cables before cleaning. Its current maintenance guidance permits a solution containing 70% isopropyl alcohol or 70% ethanol on the Paper Pro tablet, but the Marker instructions prohibit alcohol and the Book Folio should receive only a damp lint-free cloth. Treating all three as one surface is the main avoidable mistake. This guide separates the tablet, Marker, folio and USB-C port so liquid never reaches an opening.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Separate the components
Remove the Paper Pro from its Book Folio, detach the Marker and unplug the USB-C cable. Turn the tablet off. Confirm that you are cleaning a Paper Pro because older reMarkable products may have different care guidance. Keep the tablet, Marker, folio and cable in separate work areas so a permitted cleaner is not used on the wrong part.
Step 2: Start the display dry
Use a clean dry lint-free cloth and light broad passes across the textured display. Refold the cloth as it collects skin oil and dust. Do not press hard, polish one spot repeatedly, scrape the surface or use paper towels. A grainy particle should be lifted rather than dragged.
Step 3: Use minimal moisture when needed
For a mark that remains, lightly dampen the cloth away from the device. reMarkable's current guidance allows a cleaning solution containing 70% isopropyl alcohol or 70% ethanol on Paper Pro, but apply it to the cloth rather than pouring or spraying it on the tablet. Keep the cloth almost dry near the display edge, speaker openings and USB-C port.
Step 4: Dry the tablet immediately
Follow with a separate dry lint-free cloth. Inspect the display and aluminum body under side light. Do not chase a faint streak by adding liquid; move to a fresh dry section. Let the device remain off until its edges and openings are completely dry.
Step 5: Clean the Marker without alcohol
Wipe the Marker with a soft lint-free cloth that is dry or only slightly water-dampened, then dry it. reMarkable specifically warns against alcohol, ammonia, solvents, aerosols, household cleaners and abrasives on the Marker. Do not wet the tip opening, charge area or electronic end, and do not soak a Marker tip.
Step 6: Inspect the Marker tip
If writing feels rough or inaccurate, inspect the tip for wear rather than scrubbing it. Remove and replace a worn tip using the approved method and hold it by the sides. Do not sharpen, sand, wash or coat the tip. Clean loose exterior dust from the opening with a dry soft brush only.
Step 7: Wipe the Book Folio separately
Use a soft lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water on the folio, then wipe dry. reMarkable advises against window cleaner, solvent, aerosol spray and household cleaner. Do not use the tablet's permitted alcohol solution on the folio unless care instructions for that exact material explicitly change. Keep magnets and the keyboard area of Type Folio dry.
Step 8: Keep the USB-C port and speakers dry
With the device off, brush only loose exterior dust away from openings using a clean dry soft brush. Do not insert a swab, pin, compressed-air nozzle or liquid. A wet, corroded, loose or obstructed port should be allowed to dry and evaluated by support rather than scraped.
Step 9: Reassemble after a dry check
Confirm that the textured screen, tablet edges, USB-C port, speakers, Marker, tip and folio are dry. Seat the tablet in the folio without trapping grit, attach the Marker and reconnect only a clean dry cable. If touch, charging or writing behavior changes after cleaning, power down and contact reMarkable support.
