Step 1: Identify the washer and its maintenance parts

Find the model number and confirm front load, top load, auto dispenser, or Bespoke combination. Locate the exact Self Clean name, detergent-drawer release, gasket, and any owner-accessible pump-filter door. Do not copy a front-load emergency-drain procedure onto a top loader or remove a panel the manual does not identify as user serviceable.

Step 2: Empty and inspect the drum

Remove all laundry and objects from the tub, pockets, gasket folds, and dispenser. Check for nails, coins, glass, bra wires, or signs of mold and damage. Wipe loose debris with the machine off. Never reach into a moving drum, combine bleach with vinegar or ammonia, or begin Self Clean while clothing, pet bedding, or cleaning tools remain inside.

Step 3: Run Self Clean, Self Clean+, or Pure Cycle

With the washer empty, select the exact cleaning cycle and press Start. Samsung says cleaner is not normally needed; add bleach only when its model-specific mold-odor guidance instructs it. Do not add detergent, pods, vinegar, tablets, or multiple cleaners to improve the cycle. Let the full cycle finish and run another Self Clean if Samsung's procedure says suds or residue remain.

Step 4: Clean the front-load gasket or top-load rim

For a front loader, gently pull back gasket folds, remove objects, and wipe all reachable surfaces using the model-approved solution, then dry. Inspect drain holes without poking them. For a top loader, wipe the tub rim, lid underside, and dispensers without forcing water behind the control panel. A torn, leaking, deeply molded, or distorted gasket needs service or replacement.

Step 5: Remove and wash the detergent drawer

Release the drawer and inserts exactly as Samsung shows. Rinse removable parts with warm water, use a soft brush on detergent film, and wipe the drawer recess with a cloth or non-metallic brush. Auto-dispense lids and rear valves require their own diagram. Dry the recess and components thoroughly and make sure compartment covers seal correctly before reinserting them.

Step 6: Service a front-load pump filter only if equipped

If the manual shows an accessible pump filter, turn the washer off and let hot-cycle water cool for at least the period Samsung specifies. Place towels and a shallow pan, drain through the emergency hose in controlled batches, then remove and clean the filter. Keep water away from electrical parts. Never open it while water is hot or the tub is full.

Step 7: Wipe the exterior and control area

Samsung recommends a mild detergent on a damp microfiber cloth for most surface spots, followed by a clean damp cloth and dry cloth. Put product on the cloth rather than the machine. Wipe spills promptly because water and detergent can blemish the door finish. Do not flood controls, use abrasive pads, or apply an unapproved polish to printed labels.

Step 8: Dry and prevent recurring odor

After cleaning, dry the gasket, drum opening, drawer, and exterior. Leave the door and detergent drawer ajar when safe so residual moisture can escape. Use the correct detergent type and dose, occasionally use warm or hot cycles if fabric care allows, and respond to the reminder. Samsung recommends monthly Self Clean when fewer loads are run. Persistent odor, leaks, drain errors, or residue needs full troubleshooting.
