How to Clean a Sony BRAVIA TV Screen
Sony BRAVIA televisions can have OLED, Mini LED or LCD panels with delicate optical coatings, so ordinary window-cleaning habits are inappropriate. Sony's current TV care guidance begins with a soft microfiber cloth and, when needed, a cloth lightly moistened with water that does not drip. Cleaner should never be sprayed directly onto the panel, where it can run into the bezel. Dust around rear ventilation openings also needs removal without pushing debris inside. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Confirm the screen type and support instructions
Find the BRAVIA model number and open Sony's care article for that television. Note whether the set is OLED, Mini LED or LCD and whether it has a special coating. Remove jewelry that could touch the screen. Do not rely on a cleaning-kit label that says it is universal when Sony's model instructions are narrower.
Step 2: Power off, unplug and let the panel cool
Turn the television off, disconnect the plug and wait for the screen and rear cabinet to reach room temperature. A dark panel makes fingerprints easier to see and prevents controls from responding during wiping. Route the cord so it is not pulled while you work. Never clean around live ports with a damp cloth.
Step 3: Remove dry dust with almost no pressure
Fold a clean microfiber cloth into a broad pad and sweep the panel lightly from top to bottom. Support only the cloth, not your hand weight, against the screen. Refold to expose a clean face as dust accumulates. Do not use paper towels, tissues, abrasive pads or a dry dirty cloth that can drag grit across the coating.
Step 4: Use controlled water for fingerprints
Sony says to lightly moisten the microfiber cloth with water so it does not drip. Apply water to the cloth away from the television, wring it thoroughly and wipe the marked area gently. Never spray the screen. Work in small sections and keep moisture from collecting along the lower bezel, frame seams or speaker openings.
Step 5: Finish with a second dry cloth
Before the damp path air-dries into streaks, buff it softly with a separate clean dry microfiber cloth. View the screen from an angle with room light rather than repeatedly rubbing one spot. If a mark remains, repeat controlled water contact once. Do not increase pressure on an apparent mark that may be beneath the panel surface.
Step 6: Clean the bezel, back and stand separately
Use a dry soft cloth on the bezel and rear cabinet, and a slightly damp cloth only where Sony permits it for stubborn exterior grime. Keep the screen cloth separate from dusty stand surfaces. Do not let liquid enter buttons, speakers, cable recesses or seams, and do not stabilize the set by gripping or flexing the display panel.
Step 7: Remove dust from ventilation openings
Brush loose exterior dust from the rear and side vents while the TV is unplugged. If the exact Sony instructions permit a vacuum, use low suction and a soft brush without contacting internal parts. Keep canned air and high-powered vacuums away; either can force dust deeper, spin components or create condensation and static.
Step 8: Dry-clean ports, cables and remote
Wipe cable ends and accessible port exteriors with a dry cloth only, then reconnect by the plug rather than pulling a cord. For the remote, remove batteries before using a barely damp cloth on its exterior and dry around keys. Do not insert swabs, metal tools or liquid into HDMI, power, network or control openings.
Step 9: Inspect fully dry surfaces before power
Wait until the panel, bezel and rear cabinet are completely dry. Inspect the bottom edge for any trapped moisture, reconnect cables and plug the TV in. Power on and view a uniform image. A persistent patch, vertical defect or discoloration visible within the image is not surface dirt and should not receive more pressure or cleaner.
