Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Identify the Tangle Teezer design
Confirm whether you have an Original, Ultimate Detangler, Ultimate Styler, blow-drying tool, round brush, scalp massager or teasing tool. Fixed molded brushes normally air-dry teeth-up, while Tangle Teezer gives different hair-removal and drying options for vented and round styling tools.
Step 2: Lift loose hair before adding water
Slide the rounded end of a tail comb through the cleaning groove or beneath the hair at the tooth bases and raise it in small sections. Pull the loosened hair away with fingers. Do not yank sideways or use a sharp metal pick that can score the base or stretch the flexible teeth.
Step 3: Handle a round brush separately
Hair may wrap tightly around the center of a round Tangle Teezer. The manufacturer allows careful snipping along the center to divide the hair before lifting it out. Keep scissor points parallel to the barrel and away from teeth; this cutting step is not needed for a flat detangling brush.

Step 7: Rinse without overheating the brush
Rinse away all soap with clean warm water and inspect at an angle for waxy film. Repeat targeted toothbrush work instead of using hotter water. Shake gently and blot the handle and base; do not twist the teeth or strike the brush against the sink.
Step 8: Dry according to the tool type
Leave an Original, Ultimate Styler, Detangler or scalp massager to air-dry naturally with teeth facing up. Tangle Teezer says not to use a hair dryer on those standard brushes. Its blow-drying and round tools may be air-dried on a towel, and their care guide allows low dryer heat when needed. Store only when every groove is dry.
