Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Sort clubs by construction

Separate woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters and identify carbon crowns, painted finishes, raw wedge faces and adjustable hosels. Read the product instructions before using a polish or rust remover. Remove headcovers and let wet ones dry separately. A raw-face wedge may oxidize by design, while red-brown marks on an unintended steel area require different attention.

Step 2: Brush off dry sand and grass

Use a soft dry nylon brush to release loose turf and bunker sand from grooves, sole channels and cavities. Hold the club so debris falls away from the ferrule and adjustment port. Do not use a wire brush, metal pick or abrasive pad, especially on plated faces, painted crowns or carbon-composite surfaces.

Step 3: Prepare a mild cleaning solution

Add a small amount of mild detergent to warm water. TaylorMade's quick process uses detergent, a damp cloth and soft nylon brush. Keep the water shallow and do not leave clubs soaking. Ferrules, shaft tips, adjustable ports and bonded joints should not be submerged or exposed to prolonged moisture.

Step 4: Clean iron and wedge faces

Dampen the face, then brush along grooves with the soft nylon brush. Use a compatible nonmetal groove tool only for compacted soil and do not change groove edges. Wipe the sole and back. On a raw-face wedge, remove dirt and dry it; do not automatically polish away the intentional patina or apply rust remover without model-specific approval.

Step 5: Wipe woods, hybrids and putters

Apply the mild solution to a soft cloth and wipe the face, sole and exterior. Use minimal moisture around weights, adjustable screws, badges and inserts. On a painted or carbon crown, use a clean cloth rather than the face brush. Never immerse a driver head or spray cleaner into a hosel or port.

Step 6: Clean shafts and ferrules

Wipe each shaft from grip end toward the head with a damp cloth, then dry immediately. Check steel for corrosion and graphite for chips, splinters or crushed areas. Wipe ferrules without soaking their edges. Do not abrade graphite or use metal polish on a coating unless TaylorMade identifies it as compatible.

Step 7: Leave grip cleaning to its material guide

Wipe gross dirt from a TaylorMade-branded grip with a compatible damp cloth, but follow the grip maker's specific cleaning method for a full wash. Grips may be rubber, corded or hybrid. Do not let the club-head wash run down the shaft and saturate the butt end, and do not assume solvent used for installation is a surface cleaner.

Step 8: Rinse by cloth and dry immediately

Use a clean damp cloth to remove detergent from every head and shaft rather than holding the assembled club under running water. Towel-dry grooves, cavities, ferrules and adjustable features. Leave clubs out of the bag until all moisture is gone, and dry the bag dividers and headcovers if the round was wet.

Step 9: Inspect and reassemble accessories

Check faces, grooves, shafts, ferrules, weights and hosel settings for cracks, looseness or corrosion. Replace headcovers only when both cover and club are dry. A loose head, cracked carbon section, rattling weight or splintered graphite shaft needs professional inspection; cleaning cannot make a structurally damaged club safe to swing.
