How to Clean a Venta LW45 Airwasher: Discs, Housing, and Deep Cleaning

Step 1: Identify the Original-series unit and disconnect power

Check that your unit is an LW45 Original with the matching removable disc-stack arrangement. Venta gives this family a regular cleaning interval of about 10 to 14 days, with deep cleaning roughly every six months or before extended storage. Turn it off and unplug it before opening the housing or lifting out wet components. Keep the power connection away from the sink. Do not begin a powered motor test or defeat an interlock as part of routine owner cleaning.

Step 2: Open the upper housing and protect the motor

Remove the upper housing and use the two tabs beside the controls to open it as described in the model instructions. On the relevant LW45 arrangement, open the shorter non-vented sides before the long vented sides. Disconnect the motor's internal power connection and lift the motor assembly away, following the manual. Older LW14/LW24/LW44 units open differently, so do not force a panel based on this sequence. Put the electrical assembly somewhere dry and never include it in a housing rinse.

Step 3: Empty and wipe the water basin and washable housing

Remove the disc stacks and discard the old basin water. Wipe the lower basin and accessible housing surfaces with a wet, lint-free cloth, removing loose collected residue from corners. Rinse the washable housing pieces with warm water after the motor has been removed. Clean the fan blades only by controlled wiping that keeps water out of the motor assembly; the motor itself is not a rinsable part. Do not spray a hose through the assembled top or pour water over its controls.

Step 4: Rinse the disc stacks without wiping their surfaces

Venta specifically directs owners to rinse the collection discs with warm water without using the microfiber cloth on them. Hold and support each stack carefully as you rinse loose residue away. This is not a prompt to pry every disc apart or scrub between them with an improvised sharp tool. If substantial buildup remains, use the separate manufacturer-approved deep-cleaning procedure instead. Recheck that the stacks sit correctly in the basin and can engage the drive normally before you close the unit.

Step 5: Refill and distinguish additive from cleaner

For normal operation after routine cleaning, refill to the indicated water line and add the current labeled dose of Venta Water Treatment Additive. The tutorial illustrates one dose as the amount between adjacent black marks on its bottle; verify the packaging you actually have. This operating additive is different from Venta Humidifier Cleaner, which is used for a cleaning cycle and then discarded. Do not substitute essential oils, dish soap, or an arbitrary amount of concentrated cleaner into the operating water.

Step 6: Run the separate deep-cleaning cycle when due

For the matching Original-series cleaner procedure, empty the basin, refill with fresh water to its mark, and use the quantity specified by Venta for your cleaner bottle; the tutorial calls for the entire matching bottle. Reassemble the unit fully before reconnecting power and running it on the lowest setting for about two hours. Then switch off, unplug, empty the cleaning solution, and rinse the basin and disc stacks thoroughly. This controlled assembled cycle does not change the rule against handling exposed electrical parts while powered.

Step 7: Choose normal operation or completely dry storage

After deep cleaning, either refill with fresh water and the appropriate operating additive, or leave the cleaned components to dry fully for storage. Refit the dry motor assembly and its connection correctly, close the housing, and check that the disc stacks and top are seated normally. If the discs click, fail to turn, or the unit shows a persistent warning, consult Venta's separate troubleshooting instructions. Do not keep adding cleaner to compensate for a drive problem or store a damp unit closed for months.
