How to Clean WeatherTech FloorLiners Safely
WeatherTech FloorLiners are designed to contain water and debris, which means the dirt should be removed with the liner—not loosened inside the footwell. WeatherTech's official process starts with vacuuming, removal and a fresh-water rinse, followed by TechCare FloorLiner cleaner or mild detergent and a medium or fine non-metal brush. Armor All, silicone products and other slick dressings can make the driver's mat unsafe even when they improve shine.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Record the installed position
Park, shut the vehicle off and move the seat back. Confirm the driver's liner is the correct vehicle-specific piece, lies directly on carpet and is secured to every applicable factory retention point. Photograph hook orientation if needed. Do not stack it over a factory mat or another aftermarket liner.
Step 2: Vacuum before removal
Vacuum loose sand, salt and crumbs while the liner is still flat so debris does not spill into the carpet. Keep pedals unobstructed while working. Lift the liner carefully, release each retention device according to the vehicle instructions and keep the tray level until it is outside.
Step 3: Empty and pre-rinse
Dump dry debris, then hold the liner at an angle and rinse with fresh water from the cleaner upper areas toward the channels. Moderate hose pressure is enough. Pay attention to ridges, retention openings and the raised perimeter without directing a concentrated jet that splashes grit back onto the surface.
Step 4: Apply the correct cleaner
WeatherTech recommends its TechCare FloorLiner and FloorMat Cleaner; mild detergent and warm water are the conservative alternative in its care guidance. Apply enough to wet the working section without allowing product to dry. Avoid harsh cleaners, solvent, abrasive powder and household degreaser.
Step 5: Brush the channels
Agitate with a medium- or fine-bristle brush. WeatherTech's detailing sequence excludes metal bristles. Work along the molded channels, then across the field and around anchors. Salt film may require a second mild application, but harder tools can scratch and create areas that trap soil.
Step 6: Rinse until residue-free
Rinse from top to bottom until runoff is clear and no foam remains in grooves. Feel a small wet area: it should not be slick or soapy. Residual cleaner can attract dirt and reduce footing. Inspect the underside and rinse transferred mud without coating the anti-shift features with dressing.
Step 7: Use protector only as directed
If desired, WeatherTech's approved FloorLiner and FloorMat Protector can be applied sparingly and spread with a damp sponge according to its label. Do not overapply. Never use Armor All, silicone-based treatment or another shine product; WeatherTech warns these can make the surface slippery.
Step 8: Dry both sides fully
Drain the liner upside down, then turn it face up to finish drying. Towel channels and retention openings if needed. Do not reinstall while water or product remains on either side; trapped moisture can wet the carpet, and a damp or dressed face can reduce shoe traction.
Step 9: Reinstall and test pedal clearance
Place the correct liner directly on bare vehicle carpet, reconnect every retention hook and press it flat. With the engine off, move each pedal through its full travel and verify no edge can shift under or over it. Recheck after the first drive and whenever the liner has been removed.
