How to Clean West Paw Zogoflex Dog Toys

Step 1: Identify the toy and its material

Check the molded name, packaging or West Paw product page. Confirm that it is Zogoflex or another dishwasher-safe West Paw material rather than a plush, fabric, rope or mixed-material toy. Separate interlocking Toppl pieces and remove any accessory. A care method for a solid Hurley should not automatically be applied to a textile toy with stitching.

Step 2: Inspect for damage before cleaning

Look for missing chunks, deep splits, sharp edges, stretched openings or a piece small enough to swallow. Bend the toy gently under bright light to expose cracks. Cleaning cannot restore a chewed-through safety margin. Retire a damaged toy and account for missing material before giving the dog another item.

Step 3: Remove leftover food while it is soft

Scrape out wet food with a spoon or disposable towel. Push a soft brush through Qwizl openings and open Toppl cavities fully. If food has dried, soak only the water-safe toy briefly in warm soapy water to soften it. Do not use a knife, skewer or metal pick that can gouge the molded surface.

Step 4: Rinse channels and grooves

Hold the toy under warm running water and turn it so water passes through every opening. Compress flexible sections gently to release hidden debris without forcing the material inside out. For a Feast Mat, West Paw recommends rinsing it before dishwasher loading. Rinsing reduces the amount of food deposited in the dishwasher filter.

Step 5: Hand-wash when a quick clean is enough

Use mild dish soap and a dedicated soft brush. Scrub the outer surface, treat cavity, rim and narrow channel, then rinse until the toy no longer feels slick and no bubbles emerge when it is squeezed. Avoid bleach, abrasive pads, strong degreaser and heavily fragranced cleaner unless West Paw expressly approves them for that product.

Step 6: Load Zogoflex on the dishwasher's top rack

West Paw identifies Zogoflex toys as top-rack dishwasher safe. Place small toys securely so they cannot fall onto the heating element or block a spray arm. Separate components and orient cavities downward or sideways so water can enter and drain. Do not use a heated sanitize setting beyond the product's current instructions.

Step 7: Position mats so both faces wash

For a Feast Mat, follow West Paw's suggestion to lean the rinsed mat against a small plate on the top rack. This prevents it from folding flat against another surface and allows spray to reach the channels. Confirm the mat cannot drop through the rack or interfere with the spray arm as it flexes.

Step 8: Inspect and rinse after the cycle

Remove the toy when cool and check every food pocket. Dishwasher spray may miss thick paste packed at the end of a narrow channel. Brush any remainder by hand and rinse again. If the toy smells strongly of detergent or feels coated, continue rinsing until the surface is neutral and clean.

Step 9: Drain and air-dry completely

Shake water from openings and stand the toy so air reaches the interior. Turn Toppl and Tux cavities during drying. Do not store a damp food toy in a sealed bin, freezer bag or container because moisture and food traces can persist in a blind pocket. Freeze a stuffed toy only after it is clean and intentionally refilled.

Step 10: Reinspect before returning the toy

Run a finger over cooled surfaces and look again for cracks made more visible by cleaning. Reassemble only compatible pieces and choose the correct size for the dog. Supervise the next session, especially with a powerful chewer. Establish a wash rhythm based on the filling: meat, dairy and wet food require prompt cleaning after use.
