How to Clean a Wintec Synthetic Saddle
Wintec saddles use synthetic outer materials rather than traditional leather across the main seat, skirts and panels, so their official care method is unusually water-friendly: wet the saddle, apply Wintec Saddle Cleaner or mild detergent diluted in water, work stubborn marks with a small brush, rinse and dry out of direct sunlight. That does not mean every attached accessory can be hosed. Leather girths or stirrup leathers, metal fittings, flocked or air-panel systems and changeable-gullet hardware still require inspection and model-specific boundaries. Remove accessories and support the saddle correctly before cleaning.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Confirm the saddle and accessory materials
Identify the Wintec model and check whether attached billets, girth points, stirrup leathers or accessories are synthetic or leather. Note CAIR panels, flocked panels, a HART system and changeable gullet access. The main synthetic saddle can follow Wintec's rinseable method, while leather pieces must be removed and cared for separately.
Step 2: Remove accessories and inspect the saddle
Take off the girth, stirrup leathers, irons, saddle cover and pad. Support the saddle on a smooth stand. Check billets, tree symmetry, panel attachment, screws, D-rings and stitching. Stop if the tree feels abnormal, a panel separates or a load-bearing strap is cracked. Cleaning should not conceal a fitting or structural problem.
Step 3: Brush off loose grit
Use a dry cloth or soft brush to remove arena sand, hair and dried mud from the top and underside. Open flaps and clear debris from around billets and metal fittings. Dry removal prevents grit from scratching synthetic surfaces once water is added and keeps soil from being washed into gullet or panel openings.
Step 4: Wet the synthetic surface
Wintec's care page begins by wetting the surface. Use a gentle hose flow or damp sponge, controlling water around any model-specific opening. Do not use a pressure washer or direct a hard jet into panel seams, screw holes or changeable-gullet access. Keep removed leather accessories away from the wet work area.
Step 5: Apply Wintec cleaner or diluted mild detergent
Spray Wintec Saddle Cleaner as directed or use a bucket of water with only a few drops of mild dish liquid, one of Wintec's stated alternatives. Work from the seat down with a sponge or cloth. Avoid solvent, bleach, leather oil, saddle soap intended for natural hide and silicone dressing that can make riding surfaces slippery.
Step 6: Brush stubborn synthetic marks
Wintec allows a small stiff-bristled brush, such as a fingernail brush, for stubborn marks. Use it lightly on compatible synthetic areas, following surface texture. Do not scrub stitching, grippy seat material, printed labels or panel edges aggressively. A permanent scuff or color change should not be chased with abrasive powder.
Step 7: Clean the underside and hardware carefully
Wipe sweat from synthetic panels and channels without forcing water through openings. Use a soft toothbrush around accessible D-rings and billet edges, then rinse. Do not remove gullet screws or open CAIR or panel systems as part of routine washing. Clean oxidation from structural metal only with a method approved for that fitting and keep polish off riding-contact surfaces.
Step 8: Rinse away all cleaner
Wintec directs owners to rinse the saddle with water. Use gentle clean water until no foam or slick film remains under flaps, around billets or along the panels. Turn the saddle only while supporting it safely. Do not leave detergent concentrated in seams where it can attract grit or contact the horse.
Step 9: Drain and dry out of direct sunlight
Wipe excess water with clean towels and let the saddle dry on its stand in moving air. Wintec says to dry out of direct sunlight. Avoid radiators, hair dryers and enclosed hot tack trunks. Open flaps so hidden areas dry and do not put a cover over the saddle while any seam or panel feels cool and damp.
Step 10: Reinspect and reassemble
Check the dry synthetic surface, billets, screws, stitching and panels again. Reattach only clean, dry stirrup leathers, irons and girth. Confirm no cleaner made the seat, knee rolls or billets slippery. Store on a suitable stand under a breathable cover and have any fit or structural concern addressed before the next ride.
