How to Clean a WubbaNub Pacifier: Original vs. Detachable

Step 1: Identify attached or detachable construction

Examine the connection without pulling it apart. An original WubbaNub has a non-detachable pacifier sewn to the plush; the newer design uses a clip that releases a separate silicone pacifier or teether. Keep the age guidance, condition and packaging available. Do not cut an original apart or assume a used item is detachable because stitching is loose. Inspect the nipple, shield, clip and plush seams before cleaning and retire a damaged pacifier according to its safety guidance.

Step 2: Wash the pacifier surface with mild soap

Before first use and during routine care, wash the nipple with warm water and mild liquid soap. On the original, keep the plush controlled and avoid soaking it merely to reach the nipple. On the detachable model, release the pacifier using the documented clip and wash it independently. Squeeze the nipple after rinsing so retained water can escape. Do not insert a tool into the nipple, scrub it with an abrasive pad or use an unlisted solvent or bleach.

Step 3: Use the correct boiled-water method

For the original, boil water, remove the pot from heat, pour the water into a mug, and place only the nipple portion in it for two to four minutes. For a detachable pacifier, use clean tongs to place the separate silicone piece into boiled water in the mug for the same interval. This is not continuous stovetop boiling of the plush. Let the part cool and squeeze out water. A moist-heat sterilizer is another manufacturer-permitted route when used as directed.

Step 4: Wash the original plush without a dishwasher

WubbaNub says hand washing best preserves the original, while a gentle machine cycle in a mesh laundry bag is also permitted. Use mild detergent and protect the attached silicone from snagging. The original complete WubbaNub is not dishwasher safe. Do not place it in a dryer because heat can affect the pacifier’s integrity. If machine washing worsens a loose seam or exposes stuffing, remove the item from use rather than sewing around a safety component.

Step 5: Separate the detachable pacifier and plush

On the detachable design, the silicone pacifier alone is top-rack dishwasher safe. Remove it from the plush first. Hand wash the plush with a soft cloth for maximum durability, or use a mesh bag on a gentle machine cycle. Do not put the plush or clip assembly in the dishwasher. A detachable teether has its own mild-soap, rinse and dry method and should not be exposed to extreme heat, cold or freezing.

Step 6: Air-dry and clear retained water

Lay or hang the plush in a clean ventilated place until its stuffing, seams and connection area are completely dry. Air-dry the cooled pacifier and squeeze its nipple to release water. WubbaNub excludes tumble drying for both constructions. Do not return a damp plush to a crib, bag or sealed container. Heat from a radiator, hair dryer or oven is not a substitute for time and airflow and can damage silicone or fabric.

Step 7: Reconnect and inspect before return

For a detachable model, connect the completely dry approved pacifier or teether using the intended clip and verify that it is retained. Reinspect the nipple for tears, tackiness or weakening and check the plush for open seams, loose material or damage. Confirm the product remains appropriate for the child’s age and development. Cleaning does not extend a pacifier indefinitely or repair a compromised clip. Store the dry item where the nipple remains protected from contamination.
