An xTool S1 can lose cutting quality when smoke residue reaches its optics, but a cleaning reminder alone does not mean the laser has failed. Useful maintenance starts by separating three issues: ordinary debris in the work area, contamination on the lens or protector, and a genuine sensor, fan or electrical fault. Step 2: Shut down and clear the cool work area

Allow the completed job and internal parts to cool, switch the S1 off and disconnect its power before reaching inside or removing components. Lift out the finished material and collect loose offcuts and residue from the accessible work area. Keep tools clear of the optical surfaces and wiring while doing this. xTool's S1 safety instructions identify accumulated cutting debris as a fire risk.
