Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Unplug and let the steam mop cool
Turn the SpinWave SmartSteam off, unplug it by the plug, and allow the base, pad plates, and steam outlets to cool completely. Steam and nearby plastic can remain hot after the indicator changes. Do not remove pads, open the tank, or inspect ports while hot. Keep the cord, plug, controls, powered base, and handle connection out of water.
Step 2: Remove the mop pads
Once cool, step on the pad tabs or peel the pads from their attachment discs without touching soiled centers. Separate pads by type if the package includes different textures. Shake or brush loose grit into trash before washing so hard particles do not remain in the fibers or enter a washing machine. Inspect the attachment material for threads that could interfere with rotation.
Step 3: Wash the pads using BISSELL's settings
BISSELL allows machine or hand washing in warm water with liquid laundry detergent. Do not use bleach or fabric softener, which can damage fibers or leave a floor residue. If machine washing, keep hook-and-loop surfaces from snagging delicate items. Tumble dry on low as directed, and make sure pads are fully dry before storage. Replace pads that remain stiff, torn, or poorly attached.
Step 4: Empty the water tank
Remove and empty leftover water after the unit has cooled. Rinse the tank with clean water if the guide permits, then drain it fully. BISSELL recommends distilled or demineralized water for use and states that formula, cleaning solutions, and other mixtures should not be added to this tank. Never add vinegar, bleach, fragrance, or descaler unless an exact official procedure instructs it.
Step 5: Inspect and clean the steam ports
Look at the steam outlets only when the mop is unplugged and cold. Remove surface lint or mineral flakes with the supplied cleaning tool or the method shown by BISSELL, keeping the tool aligned with the port. Do not enlarge an opening, insert a needle into an unknown depth, or pour descaling liquid through the base. Contact support if steam remains uneven after approved cleaning.
Step 6: Wipe the pad plates and underside
Use a clean damp cloth to lift floor residue from the cooled rotating plates, guards, and accessible underside, then dry them. Rotate only as allowed when unplugged and do not force the mechanism. Remove threads around an accessible spindle with blunt scissors, staying clear of the plate surface. Never rinse or immerse the powered base.
Step 7: Clean the exterior and cord
Wipe the handle, tank seat, and housing with a damp microfiber cloth followed by a dry cloth. Keep moisture out of buttons, seams, and vents. Inspect the cord and plug for cuts, heat damage, or loose prongs. Do not use the steam mop if the cord, tank, steam outlet, or rotating plate appears damaged.
Step 8: Refit pads evenly
Center clean, dry pads on the attachment discs so no edge overlaps a guard. Misaligned or bunched pads can make the mop pull, vibrate, or clean unevenly. Fill with distilled or demineralized water only when preparing to use the machine, seat the tank, and test steam on a compatible sealed hard floor according to the floor manufacturer's instructions.
Step 9: Store cool, dry, and empty
After the final use, cool the mop, empty the tank, remove damp pads, and let all pieces dry. Store upright in a dry indoor area without water in the tank and without dirty pads pressed against the base. Do not store where residual moisture can freeze or where children can pull on the cord. Loosely wrap the cord without sharply bending it.
