Step 1: Stop the machine and keep the compressor upright

Press Power to turn the machine off, unplug it and allow the compressor to cool before cleaning. Keep the housing upright and level on its feet throughout the job; do not invert it to drain a spill. The Breville Smart Scoop instruction book distinguishes the washable accessories from the fixed housing and chamber. Transfer finished dessert to a separate container with a suitable nonmetallic utensil. Do not scrape the bowl’s coating with a knife or metal scoop.

Step 2: Remove the lid, paddle and bowl without forcing frozen parts

Take off the lid and lift out the removable parts according to their normal release arrangement. Keep the bowl’s handle and paddle alignment in mind for reassembly. If the bowl is stuck after churning, Breville identifies moisture on its exterior as one possible cause and advises switching off and waiting approximately five minutes for thawing. Do not lever a frozen bowl out with a tool or pour hot water around the fixed chamber. Give trapped ice time to release before removing the part gently.

Step 3: Soften residue inside the hand-wash-only bowl

With the bowl removed, Breville recommends filling it about halfway with warm soapy water and letting residue soften for 10–20 minutes. Clean with a nonabrasive sponge, paying attention to the sides, base and central area without scratching the finish. Rinse thoroughly and inspect for remaining chocolate, fruit or sticky sugar film. The anodized bowl must not go in the dishwasher. Keep the bowl-cleaning water out of the main appliance: a removable bowl that can hold a soaking solution is not permission to fill the fixed bowl chamber.

Step 4: Brush through the paddle’s central channel

Wash the paddle with warm soapy water and use the supplied bottle brush inside its central passage. Rotate and move the brush through the channel to reach residue that exterior wiping misses, following the manufacturer’s pictured method. Inspect the scraping edges and rinse well. The paddle is dishwasher-safe on the top rack, but still check the passage after washing. Do not overlook it merely because the outside looks clean. A cracked or distorted paddle is a part-condition issue rather than a stain to remove with more force.

Step 5: Wash the lid and wipe the room-temperature chamber

Clean the lid with warm soapy water and a soft sponge, including the accessible mix-in opening and underside, then rinse and dry. The manual identifies the lid and paddle as top-shelf dishwasher-compatible parts; hand washing remains a straightforward option. Wait until the fixed chamber is at room temperature, then wipe any spilled mixture with a soft damp cloth and mild soapy water. Remove the residue with a clean damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Do not submerge the housing, put it in a dishwasher or pour liquid into the chamber.

Step 6: Clean the controls and dry every contact surface

Wipe the stainless housing and display with a soft damp cloth. If a compatible mild cleaner is needed, apply it to the cloth or sponge rather than spraying the screen or buttons. Breville cautions against dry paper-towel rubbing on the display and against abrasive or metal scouring materials. Keep moisture from entering under the controls. Dry the chamber, bowl exterior, handle area and paddle channel completely before reassembly. A water droplet outside the bowl can become a freeze-in problem even when all the food-contact surfaces are clean.

Step 7: Reassemble correctly and store on the support feet

Place the dry bowl into its chamber and seat the paddle correctly over the spindle. Arrange the handle in its proper recess so the lid can lock without force. For the next batch, fit the paddle before adding ingredients; Breville notes that this helps avoid spills into the chamber. Store the clean appliance upright on its feet with its accessories dry and assembled, and do not place objects on top. If the lid will not lock or the paddle will not move, recheck assembly and trapped ice before assuming cleaning has failed.
