How to Clean a Breville Bambino Plus
The compact Breville Bambino Plus has no built-in grinder, but its automatic milk system makes prompt steam-wand care especially important. Coffee oils build up in the group head, basket, and portafilter; milk can dry in the wand and temperature sensor; and scale forms inside the heated water circuits. A cleaning-tablet cycle and a descaling program are separate operations with different indicators. Exact button sequences can vary by regional manual, so match the model number before starting either guided cycle.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Flush coffee residue after every shot
Remove the portafilter after pressure has released, knock out the puck, and rinse the basket and portafilter. Run a short plain-water flush through the group head and wipe grounds from the rim with a soft brush. This daily step keeps oil and loose grounds from baking onto the shower screen or interfering with the group seal.
Step 2: Wipe and purge the automatic steam wand
Lower the wand after texturing milk so its automatic purge empties into the drip tray. When safe to touch, wipe the full wand with a clean damp cloth and keep the temperature sensor on the drip tray clean and dry. Never leave the jug or dried milk on the sensor, because the automatic frothing system depends on accurate contact.
Step 3: Unblock the tip only with the supplied tool
If steam flow is weak, switch off, unplug, and cool the machine. Use the supplied cleaning tool gently in the tip holes. If still blocked, unscrew the tip as Breville demonstrates, rinse or soak only the removable tip in hot water, clear it, and reinstall it firmly. Do not use an oversized pin or operate steam without the tip.
Step 4: Wash removable parts and wipe the machine
Remove the drip tray, tray grid, water tank, portafilter, and baskets. Hand-wash parts with warm water and mild soap unless the exact manual approves a dishwasher, then rinse and dry. Wipe the unplugged housing and cup tray with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the machine or let water enter buttons, the power connection, or underside.
Step 5: Clear basket holes and group buildup
Hold baskets toward a light to find blocked holes and use the small pin on the supplied tool as directed. Brush the cooled group rim and run a plain-water flush. Do not remove the shower screen or gasket unless the manual identifies the task as user maintenance; persistent leaks or damage require service.
Step 6: Run the cleaning-tablet program when prompted
The Bambino Plus signals its cleaning requirement by flashing the 1 CUP and 2 CUP buttons. Empty the drip tray, fill the tank, place the cleaning disc in the one-cup basket, add one tablet, and lock in the portafilter. Put a container beneath the outlets and start the exact cleaning-cycle button combination from the manual. Do not interrupt it.
Step 7: Descale using the separate procedure
When the descale indicator pattern appears, remove any water filter if the regional model uses one and prepare only the approved solution at the specified concentration. Enter descale mode with the controls shown in the exact Bambino Plus manual. Route the solution through the required group-head and steam/hot-water stages; a tablet cleaning cycle does not remove mineral scale.
Step 8: Rinse, reassemble, and test
Rinse the tank thoroughly, refill with fresh water, and complete every guided freshwater stage through all treated outlets. Wash the drip tray again because it collected cleaner. Reassemble dry parts, then run a water-only shot and brief steam purge. Do not prepare a drink if cleaner odor remains or an error pattern persists.
