Step 1: Identify the hood and filter type

Find the Broan model label and open its manual or filter-replacement page. A shiny aluminum mesh or stainless baffle is generally washable, while a dark charcoal pad or odor filter is typically disposable. Some hoods combine charcoal and metal pieces. Record their order before separation and never wash a component merely because it fits behind a metal screen.

Step 2: Switch the hood off and let it cool

Turn off the fan and lights and wait until the cooktop, bulbs, filter, and surrounding metal are cool. Disconnect hood power by the method in the exact manual if hands will approach exposed electrical areas. Do not remove a grease-laden filter above a hot burner or open flame.

Step 3: Release and support the filter

Step 7: Use a dishwasher only when approved

Step 8: Rinse and dry completely

Rinse from both sides with clean warm water until no foam, slickness, or loosened grease remains. Shake gently over the sink and blot the frame. Stand the filter securely in moving room air until its mesh layers and channels are dry. Never reinstall a dripping filter above electrical fan components.

Step 9: Wipe the accessible filter surround
