How to Clean a Catit Flower Fountain
Catit Flower Fountains have narrow flower channels, a filter tray and a pump or impeller path that can collect hair, food film and limescale. Catit's official guidance calls for regular cleaning with water, dish soap and a soft cloth or sponge, never abrasives. The filter is the exception: rinse it under running water without soap and replace it when excessively dirty. Traditional Flower Fountain pumps should be disassembled about every two weeks, while the newer Easy Clean Flower Fountain uses a pumpless reservoir over a dry base and has a different impeller arrangement. This guide makes that model gate explicit so an owner does not submerge an electrical base or follow an old pump video for a new pumpless design.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Identify standard, Mini, LED, steel or Easy Clean
Unplug the fountain and read its model label before disassembly. Traditional Flower models have a removable powered pump; the 2026 Easy Clean design is described as pumpless and separates its reservoir from a dry base. Dishwasher claims and metal-top care also vary, so follow the exact manual over a family-wide shortcut.
Step 2: Empty and separate the water path
Discard old water, then remove the flower, top, filter pad, filter tray and connector tube. On the Easy Clean model, lift the reservoir from the base and remove the impeller as shown. Keep the filter apart from soapy pieces and place the powered base or cord away from the sink.
Step 3: Wash plastic components gently
Clean the reservoir, flower, top, tray and connector with warm water, dish soap and a soft cloth or sponge. Catit says never to use aggressive detergent or an abrasive sponge. Use a narrow pipe brush inside the flower and tubes so hidden slime is removed rather than merely rinsed at the opening.
Step 4: Disassemble the traditional pump
For models with a removable pump, take it out and open only the faceplate, impeller and pieces identified by Catit. The company recommends disassembling and cleaning the pump about every two weeks. Rinse each part separately and use the small impeller brush on the shaft and cavity without damaging the cord seal.
Step 5: Treat the Easy Clean base as dry equipment
On the newer Easy Clean model, wipe a visibly dirty base or pump area with a dry or only lightly damp cloth. Catit says never to use a wet cloth or submerge the base or pump. Keep dishwater and vinegar in the removable reservoir, not around contacts or the powered base.
Step 6: Remove limescale with diluted vinegar
For stubborn scale, Catit specifies one part water to one part natural white vinegar on the compatible reservoir, with up to a 15-minute contact time when needed. Do not use an abrasive sponge or mix vinegar with bleach or another product. Rinse until no vinegar odor remains.
Step 7: Rinse the filter without soap
Hold the filter under running water and remove trapped hair or debris. Catit says never to use soap or soapy water on it. Discard and replace a filter that is excessively dirty, damaged or moldy. On traditional models, soak or orient the new filter as the manual directs so it remains submerged and does not float.
Step 8: Reassemble, refill and restart
Rinse and dry all pieces, reassemble the impeller or pump and restore the tubes, filter tray, filter and flower. Fill to the marked level before reconnecting power. On Easy Clean, lift the refilled reservoir off its base for at least five seconds before lowering it if the red indicator remains and the unit will not restart.
