How to Clean a Dyson V15 Detect Vacuum

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Switch off and disconnect the battery
Release the trigger, remove the vacuum from its charger, and detach the click-in battery if your V15 version allows it. Let the machine cool after Boost mode. Never clean a powered head while it is connected to the wand or battery, and do not press the trigger during maintenance.
Step 2: Empty the clear bin at the MAX line
Hold the machine over a trash container, point the bin downward, and operate the red ejector so the shroud pushes dust out and the base opens. Do not let debris rise above the MAX mark, where it can load the filter and cyclone. Close the bin base until it clicks before reinstalling or removing the bin for deeper wiping.
Step 3: Wipe the bin and cyclone without soaking the body
Remove the clear bin only through the documented release. Wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it completely. Use a dry microfiber cloth or soft brush on the cyclone shroud and body. Dyson's V15 support says to clean the cyclone with a microfiber cloth; never rinse the cyclone, motor housing, LCD, electrical contacts, or battery.
Step 4: Remove and tap the rear filter
Twist the filter counterclockwise and pull it from the back of the machine. Tap it lightly over a bin to dislodge loose dust. Inspect both the pleated and open ends. Do not use a hard brush, compressed air, or vacuum nozzle on the filter media, because those methods can damage its structure.
Step 5: Wash the filter monthly with water only
Dyson recommends washing the filter at least once a month. Rinse it under cold tap water while rubbing gently with your hands; do not use detergent. Fill the open end with warm tap water, cover it with your hand, shake, and empty. Repeat until the water runs clear, then shake firmly to expel excess water.
Step 6: Dry the filter for more than 24 hours
Place the filter in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours and perform a touch check before refitting. Moisture can damage the motor. Do not use a tumble dryer, microwave, oven, radiator, naked flame, or enclosed cupboard. An optional second genuine filter lets the vacuum remain usable while the first dries.
Step 7: Clean the Fluffy brush bar only if the head permits
Unlock the end cap and slide the soft roller from a compatible Fluffy cleaner head. Remove the end cap if the guide shows it is detachable, then rinse the brush bar under running water and rub away lint. Stand it upright and let it dry completely for at least 24 hours. Do not wash the powered head housing or its electrical neck.
Step 8: Clear the Digital Motorbar and hair screw tool dry
Disconnect each tool. Remove wrapped hair from accessible brush bars, end grooves, and airways using fingers or blunt scissors, cutting away from bristles and seals. The Motorbar and hair screw tool contain powered parts; do not submerge them unless the exact head guide explicitly identifies a removable washable component.
Step 9: Check the wand, inlet, and sensors for blockages
Look through the wand and tool inlets against a light. Remove loose obstructions without pushing them deeper, using no sharp rod. Wipe the LCD and exterior sensor surfaces with a dry microfiber cloth. If the V15 shows an airway-blocked message, work through each detachable section with the battery disconnected.
Step 10: Reassemble only when every washed part is dry
Slide the dry Fluffy roller into its correct head and lock the end cap. Refit the clear bin, twist the completely dry filter clockwise until secure, and reconnect the battery and tools. Test in Eco or Auto mode. If pulsing continues, stop and recheck the filter, bin seal, cyclone inlet, wand, and cleaner head rather than repeatedly using Boost.
