How to Clean an ELEGOO Saturn 4 Ultra Resin Printer
The ELEGOO Saturn 4 Ultra uses a resin vat, release film, build plate, monochrome LCD, mechanical residue detection, and a tilting vat platform. Uncured resin can migrate into the tilt groove or beneath the vat if a film leak is missed. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Finish exposure, raise the plate, and isolate power
Let the final print drip over the vat, then remove the build plate through the normal Saturn 4 Ultra sequence. Protect the work surface, switch off, and unplug the printer before removing the vat or cleaning the tilt platform. Keep uncured resin away from skin, eyes, the touchscreen, power socket, USB port, fans, and internal electronics.
Step 2: Inspect for cured fragments before draining
Use the printer's tank-clean or exposure function only as ELEGOO directs if a failed print may have left pieces on the release film. Never drag a metal scraper across the film to search blindly. Tilt the vat gently under controlled light and look for punctures, cloudy areas, dents, or cured islands before pouring resin through a filter.
Step 3: Filter and store reusable resin
Place a fine resin filter and funnel in the correct opaque bottle, then pour slowly from a vat corner without spilling into the tilt mechanism. Do not return filtered resin to a chemically incompatible resin bottle or mix unidentified products. Wipe the pour edge before setting the vat down on a clean, lint-free surface that cannot scratch the release film.
Step 4: Clean the vat and release film gently
Use the solvent approved for the exact resin and ELEGOO vat procedure, applying it with lint-free wipes rather than scraping. Support the film from below only where the manual allows and avoid fingernails, paper towels, metal blades, and excessive pressure. Remove every cured speck. Replace a film that is punctured, deeply dented, cloudy, loose, or leaking instead of trying to polish it.
Step 5: Clean the build plate
Remove printed parts using the approved plate tool and direction. Wipe uncured resin from the plate, edges, and mounting surfaces using compatible solvent. Keep resin out of adjustment joints and threads. A scratched working texture may be normal, but burrs, cured lumps, or an uneven mounting face can affect leveling and should be addressed before the plate returns.
Step 6: Inspect and clean the LCD surface
With the vat removed and printer unplugged, use a soft clean microfiber cloth to remove dust from the protective glass or LCD surface. If resin is present, follow ELEGOO's exact cured- or uncured-resin procedure and use no metal scraper. Do not flood screen edges with solvent, press hard on the panel, or expose uncured resin with the printer's UV source during manual wiping.
Step 7: Clean the tilt platform and groove
Inspect around the tilting vat platform for leaked resin. For a small accessible film, blot it without moving resin toward bearings or wiring. ELEGOO publishes a model-specific disassembly procedure for resin leaked into the platform groove; use that guide rather than forcing the mechanism or improvising screw removal. Resin inside the tilt assembly must be fully resolved before powered movement.
Step 8: Wipe the Z axis and enclosure
Remove dust and resin specks from the Z lead screw and linear guide with a lint-free cloth while preventing residue from entering the motor. Apply only ELEGOO-approved lubricant when the maintenance schedule calls for it. Wipe the cover and compatible exterior surfaces with a suitable cloth; avoid alcohol on any plastic that ELEGOO identifies as solvent-sensitive.
Step 9: Dry, inspect, and reassemble
Allow all solvent to evaporate and verify that the vat underside, release film, LCD surface, plate mount, and tilt platform are clean and dry. Reinstall the vat evenly and tighten fasteners in the stated sequence without overtightening. Refit the build plate, reconnect power, and run only the prescribed movement or exposure check.
Step 10: Validate before the next full print
Use a small exposure or calibration print and watch the initial layers. Stop if the printer detects residue, the tilt movement sounds abnormal, resin appears beneath the vat, or the film shows a new mark. Filter resin again if fragments are found. Do not leave contaminated wipes or uncured resin in normal trash until they have been handled under the resin maker's disposal method.
