How to Clean iSpring RCC7 Filter Housings
The standard iSpring RCC7 uses three vertical prefilter housings, a separate reverse-osmosis membrane housing, and an inline postfilter. Reusable housings can be cleaned during filter service, but the used cartridges are not washable replacements. This guide covers careful housing maintenance on that five-stage system. It does not provide a whole-system disinfection recipe, restore a contaminated water supply, or apply automatically to tankless iSpring machines and additional UV or alkaline stages.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Identify the service you are actually doing
Read the labels and photograph the arrangement before removing anything. Stages one through three are sediment, granular activated carbon, and carbon block; the membrane and inline postfilter have separate replacement procedures. Check your replacement kit rather than ordering or fitting parts by appearance alone. If there is slime, an unusual persistent odor, flood contamination, or an unsafe source-water concern, stop using the water and contact iSpring about sanitization and replacement. A washed housing is not proof that drinking water is safe.
Step 2: Shut off both water sources and release pressure
Close the system's cold-water supply valve and the tank valve, then open the RO faucet to depressurize. Place a bucket and towels beneath the housings before loosening anything. Follow the iSpring filter-change instructions for access under your sink. Support the assembly without stretching tubes or using a housing as a handle. If water continues flowing under pressure, resolve the isolation problem before proceeding; a wrench is not a way to work around an unclosed supply.
Step 3: Remove prefilters and clean the empty cups
Use the housing wrench to loosen the vertical housings as specified, remembering that your viewing angle matters when judging the opening direction. Keep each cup and cartridge position identified, and discard cartridges being replaced. Wipe loose sediment from the empty cups with a clean soft cloth and rinse thoroughly with potable water. Do not scrub the used carbon or sediment element and put it back as a renewed filter. Avoid abrasive tools, boiling water, and transferring debris from the sink into a cleaned housing.
Step 4: Clean the membrane housing only during its own service
There is no need to open the membrane housing just because you wiped the prefilter cups. If membrane replacement is due, follow its separate tubing, cap, and removal sequence. iSpring permits cleaning the empty membrane housing with hot water and optional scent-free dish soap, followed by thorough rinsing. Do not expose an installed membrane to that wash. Avoid touching the replacement membrane directly; its packaging can help you guide it into place. Do not improvise bleach, vinegar, or industrial membrane-cleaning chemicals.
Step 5: Inspect the seals before installing new filters
Look for debris in accessible O-ring grooves and for a seal that is cut, flattened, stretched, or no longer seats evenly. Use correct replacement O-rings when needed, not extra tape packed around a housing seal. Keep cleaned parts on a clean surface while fitting the new filters in the proper stage and orientation. Do not transfer a tightening instruction for the membrane cap to every vertical housing. The relevant component instructions govern; excessive force is not a reliable cure for a leak.
Step 6: Restart and flush according to the replacement kit
Restore the water supply and tank-valve arrangement in the sequence supplied with the filters, checking the opened joints as pressure returns. Complete the specified startup flush and discard the required initial water before drinking it. Flush requirements depend on which elements were replaced, so do not invent one universal volume for prefilters, membrane, and postfilter changes. If a joint leaks, isolate and depressurize again before reseating it. Never try to tighten a pressurized housing more and more until the drip seems to stop.
Step 7: Check performance and keep a service record
Dry the outside of every serviced housing so fresh leaks will be visible, then recheck after the system has filled and operated. Record filter types, replacement date, any O-rings changed, and the completed flush. Compare performance with the RCC7 manual linked by iSpring. A TDS reading can help track RO performance, but does not establish microbiological safety or test every contaminant. Persistent taste, odor, leakage, or abnormal flow needs diagnosis rather than another cosmetic housing rinse.
