How to Clean a Kärcher FC 7 Cordless Floor Cleaner
The Kärcher FC 7 Cordless uses four counter-rotating rollers, two hair filters, separate fresh- and dirty-water tanks, and a System!Clean rinse function. Hair and grit collect in different places than they do in a standard vacuum, while dirty water can leave odor if tanks and channels remain closed after use. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Stop, switch off, and remove loose debris
Release the controls, turn the FC 7 off, and disconnect the charging cable if attached. Let all four rollers stop. Set the machine in its cleaning or parking station before opening tanks. Pick up any loose hair or grit around the head without touching electrical contacts. Do not lay the cleaner flat with filled tanks, because dirty water can reach areas not designed to be wet.
Step 2: Empty the dirty-water tank
Remove the dirty-water tank using its releases, empty it into an appropriate sanitary drain, and remove trapped hair or solids. Rinse the tank and separator pieces with clean water. Kärcher identifies the wastewater tank as dishwasher-safe, but use only the rack, temperature, and component limits in the FC 7 instructions; keep seals and nonapproved pieces out of a hot cycle.
Step 3: Prepare the System!Clean cycle
Check that the fresh-water tank has the amount of clean water required for self-cleaning, empty the dirty tank, and seat both tanks and the machine correctly in the station. Use the FC 7 System!Clean control sequence from the operating instructions. Do not add excessive detergent to the rinse water, leave the cleaner unattended on an unstable surface, or remove it while the rollers are moving.
Step 4: Run System!Clean and empty again
Allow the programmed cleaning cycle to flush the rollers and head channels. When it finishes, switch off and remove the dirty-water tank again because the rinse has transferred soil into it. Empty and rinse the tank. System!Clean is a helpful after-use rinse, but it does not replace removing wrapped hair or periodically hand-cleaning the rollers and filters.
Step 5: Remove and wash all four rollers
Twist or pull the color-coded roller pairs from their shafts in the order shown by Kärcher. Rinse them thoroughly, working out lint and floor residue. If machine washing is allowed by the exact roller instructions, stay within Kärcher's stated temperature and detergent limits. Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Keep each roller in its correct front or rear and color-coded position for reassembly.
Step 6: Brush the two hair filters
Release the left and right hair filters from the head and use the supplied cleaning brush to remove fibers from their comb-like surfaces and surrounding channels. Rinse them only as the manual permits. Do not bend the teeth, use a sharp metal pick, or push hair into the suction channel. Clean filters help separate dry debris before it reaches the wastewater system.
Step 7: Clean head channels and tank seats
With removable parts out, wipe accessible head channels and tank contact surfaces using a damp cloth or approved brush, then dry. Remove sludge from user-accessible strainers and confirm floats move freely. Do not pour water into the powered head, hose it down, open the battery housing, or insert tools into the motor or pump path.
Step 8: Rinse and drain the fresh-water tank
Empty leftover mixed solution before long storage and rinse the fresh-water tank with clean water. Use only Kärcher-approved solution at the specified dose in future cleaning; excess or foaming household detergent can affect liquid control. Check the cap and valve for residue without forcing them. Never fill with boiling water, solvents, bleach, vinegar, or essential oils.
Step 9: Dry and reassemble by color
Air-dry the rollers, hair filters, tank pieces, and station with good ventilation. Leave tanks open until dry to discourage odor. Reinstall the hair filters and color-coded roller pairs only when clean and correctly oriented, then seat both tanks. Run a short water-only floor test and stop if an overflow warning, missing-tank warning, or unusual roller vibration appears.
