Step 1: Identify the exact fabric and care method

Look up the cover name in the order record and read every sewn-in label. Lovesac says most Sactionals covers can be machine washed in cold water and line-dried, but some fabrics require spot cleaning or dry cleaning. Do not assume that two similar colors or textures share a care code. If the label is missing, contact Lovesac with the order information before applying water.

Step 2: Photograph the layout and label each cover

Take wide photos of the sectional and close-ups of seams, zippers, piping, and orientation. Work on one Seat, Side, Back Pillow, or accessory at a time, or attach a removable location label that will not enter the washer. This prevents swapping a stretched seat cover with a side cover and makes tufting and seam alignment easier to restore.

Step 3: Vacuum before removing fabric

Lift crumbs, pet hair, and grit with an upholstery attachment, then use the crevice tool gently along seams. Removing dry soil first keeps it out of the zipper and washing machine. Use low suction on loose weave and avoid scraping fabric with a bare plastic nozzle. Check under cushions and around shoes, clamps, and table accessories while the system is accessible.

Step 4: Remove an approved cover carefully

Unzip the piece and peel the cover back gradually, compressing the insert rather than pulling hard on the zipper or seam. Note flap order and how corners are tucked. Step 5: Machine-wash only covers labeled for it

For the insert liner or a cover labeled spot clean only, first blot liquid with a white absorbent cloth. Test a tiny hidden area with the label-approved cleaner. Use minimal moisture, blot from the outer edge inward, and avoid soaking foam. A dry-clean-only cover should go to a cleaner who can follow its fiber and care information rather than receiving a home wet treatment.

Step 8: Refit the completely dry cover

Match the cover to its documented insert and orientation. Work corners into place first, align seams and tufting, then close the zipper without forcing it. Massage fill away from the zipper track if needed. Rebuild the Sactional using the original shoe and clamp positions, checking that no fabric is pinched between hardware or dragged across the floor.

Step 9: Correct stains and fit problems conservatively

If a washed cover has a stain, repeat only its approved wash after reviewing the label; heat can set residue and unauthorized products can alter color. If a cover shrank, distorted, or will not zip with gentle alignment, stop pulling and contact Lovesac. Deep liquid contamination inside foam, mildew, damaged seams, or pet waste may require professional advice or replacement rather than repeated soaking.
