A MEATER probe can look clean while a thin cooked-on grease film still interferes with charging. Step 1: Identify the probe before choosing a wash method

Check the product name in your app, packaging or order details. Original MEATER, Plus and SE belong to the older Alpha group; Pro, Pro Duo and Pro XL use the Pro design. Do not identify a probe only by its charger shape or a general claim of water resistance. Step 2: Let it cool and separate it from the electronics

Allow the probe to cool enough to handle safely and take it away from the cooking area. Keep its sharp end controlled as you move it to the sink. Set the charger, Block and any powered electronics somewhere dry before starting. Do not immerse the holder to clean the probe, and do not use the holder as a drying stand. Note whether the current symptom is visible grease, a charging problem or a connection fault; those are related possibilities, not interchangeable diagnoses.

Step 3: Wash the food residue and exposed shaft

Use soapy water and a sponge to remove food, grease and smoke deposits along the probe. MEATER's probe-cleaning instructions emphasize scrubbing away stubborn films rather than judging cleanliness by a quick rinse. Work over the full exposed metal surface and around the charging end. Keep the sharp tip pointed away from your other hand. Hand washing gives you a chance to see which deposits remain instead of automatically repeating a machine cycle.

Inspect the flat contact at the end opposite the sharp tip. A film there can matter even when the rest of the probe looks presentable. For resistant buildup, MEATER describes a paste of three parts baking soda to one part water as an option, followed by washing and rinsing. Use it locally on the probe, not inside the charger. Do not scrape a contact with a knife or pry at the end cap; an electrical connection problem is not permission to dismantle the probe.

Step 5: Apply the Pro-only dishwasher option carefully

The Pro support guide permits top-rack dishwasher cleaning of the Pro probe. Follow that exact model's instructions and keep every charger outside the machine. Use hand washing for the older original, Plus and SE probes; it avoids relying on conflicting broad support wording about older devices. Even a dishwasher-safe probe may need a hand scrub if baked grease remains. Do not treat dishwasher permission as a reason for prolonged soaking in unrelated cleaners.

Step 6: Dry the probe and wipe the holder without liquid

Rinse away detergent or paste and dry the probe thoroughly before docking it. Wipe accessible charger contacts with a dry cloth; no drips, spray or wet brush belong in the holder. Look for obvious damage or corrosion before reconnecting. If the tip, shaft or end assembly is loose or damaged, stop using it and contact MEATER. A clean surface cannot establish that a damaged seal or temperature sensor is functioning correctly, so do not use apparent cleanliness as proof of repair.

Step 7: Recharge, then separate charging from connection checks

Return the dry probe to its matching charger and allow the model's recommended charge time. MEATER's cleaning guidance gives different recovery waits: two hours for original/Plus/SE, eight hours for Block and fifteen minutes for the Pro family. Those are not a single universal charging rule. If it still fails, check the holder's power or batteries and follow the exact model's troubleshooting. For future sessions, clean promptly after the cooled probe is removed, so each cook does not add another layer of grease.
