How to Clean a Miele Complete C3 Vacuum

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Switch off, unplug, and retract the cord
Use the foot switch to turn the canister off, unplug it by the plug rather than pulling the cable, and allow the cord to retract under control. Disconnect an electric hose or Electrobrush only after power is removed. Never perform maintenance while the canister is connected to mains electricity.
Step 2: Read the FilterBag change indicator correctly
Fit the normal floorhead, lift it from the floor, and use maximum power as the manual directs when checking the indicator. Replace the bag when the color marker fills the window red. Fine dust can fill pores before the bag looks physically packed, while fluffy debris can fill volume without immediately loading the media.
Step 3: Remove and seal the used FilterBag
Open the dust-compartment lid and pull the bag collar from its holder. The Miele bag closes as it is removed, helping contain dust. Place it directly in the trash. Never empty and reuse a disposable FilterBag; damaged media can release fine debris into the motor compartment.
Step 4: Dry-clean the bag compartment
Use a soft dry cloth or brush to remove loose dust from the compartment, collar guide, and lid seal. If the manual permits, use a barely damp cloth on plastic and then dry it fully. Do not vacuum the interior with the machine itself, pour water inside, or touch electrical contacts with moisture.
Step 5: Replace the motor-protection filter on schedule
Miele recommends replacing the motor-protection filter whenever you start a new packet of FilterBags; original bag packets include the filter material. Open its frame, remove the old piece, fit the new one flat without folds, and close the frame securely. This filter is generally replaced rather than washed.
Step 6: Identify the exhaust filter before servicing it
Open the exhaust compartment and read the filter name. A basic AirClean pad, Active AirClean 50, and HEPA AirClean 50 have different holders and schedules. Replace the TimeStrip-equipped filter when its indicator is fully red, commonly after about a year of typical use. Do not rinse a replace-only HEPA or charcoal filter.
Step 7: Install the new bag and filters correctly
Slide a fresh GN FilterBag collar fully into its holder until it clicks, leaving the bag loose rather than folded over the lid edge. Seat the motor-protection and exhaust filters in their correct frames. The compartment lid should close without force; if it will not, recheck the bag collar instead of defeating the safety interlock.
Step 8: Clear the floorhead or Electrobrush
Detach the floorhead. Remove hair and thread from the brushroll using the cleaning groove or blunt scissors, cutting away from bristles, belt areas, and wiring. Wipe wheels and suction channels. Keep an Electrobrush dry and do not remove screws for routine care; its electrical connector and motor cannot be rinsed.
Step 9: Inspect the hose, wand, and tools
Look through the detached telescopic wand and non-electrical tools against a light. Remove loose obstructions from the nearest end using a blunt implement. Do not wash an electro-suction hose, force a rigid pole through a bend, or puncture the hose wall. Wipe the handle contacts and tool surfaces with a dry cloth.
Step 10: Wipe the casing and test the seal
Clean the unplugged canister exterior with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth and immediately dry it. Never submerge the cleaner. Close the compartments, reconnect the hose and head, and test briefly. If the indicator remains red with a fresh bag and clean airways, verify the filter installation and contact Miele support rather than operating without filtration.
