How to Clean Mohawk RevWood Flooring

Step 1: Identify the exact RevWood collection

Find the collection and color on an invoice, carton, spare board, sample, or retailer record. Open its current Mohawk product page, care guide, and warranty. Confirm whether it is RevWood, RevWood Select, Plus, Premier, or an older line and whether the installed product explicitly permits steam. If identification fails, use the non-steam minimal-moisture method.

Step 2: Blot spills before they reach edges

Lift solids with a smooth plastic edge and blot liquid with a white absorbent cloth, working inward. Dry bevels, transitions, and perimeter gaps. Waterproof surface claims do not excuse standing liquid at damaged joints, wall openings, stair noses, vents, or plumbing penetrations.

Step 3: Remove grit with clean tools

Use a microfiber dust mop or vacuum with a hard-floor head and rotating brush off. Mohawk advises replacing a dirty mop head rather than pushing soil around. Inspect vacuum wheels and pads for stones, and clean along plank bevels before any damp treatment.

Step 4: Prepare the microfiber pad correctly

Start with a freshly washed pad free of fabric softener; Mohawk warns that softener can reduce microfiber performance and leave residue. Shake out trapped grit. Keep separate pads for ordinary floor care and oily cleanup so residue from another room is not transferred onto the finish.

Step 5: Mist cleaner onto the pad

Use Mohawk FloorCare Essentials or the cleaner specified for the collection. Mist it onto the cloth or mop, not directly into plank joints, and do not pour from a bucket. Work in small sections along the plank direction with light overlap. Replace the pad when it becomes visibly dirty.

Step 6: Treat marks without changing gloss

Use approved cleaner on a white cloth and blot a mark from its edge. For gum or wax, harden it with ice sealed in a bag, then lift with a smooth plastic edge. Consult Mohawk's stain directions before using alcohol or solvent. Avoid steel wool, scouring powder, melamine foam, and hard scraping.

Step 7: Use steam only with exact written permission

Some current RevWood Plus and Premier collections state that they are safe for steam mopping. Follow that exact product's pad, motion, and frequency restrictions. Do not hold steam over a joint, use a damaged device, or extend one collection's claim to legacy flooring. When unsure, skip steam.

Step 8: Dry edges and correct residue

Normal approved cleaning should leave little moisture. Wipe transitions, bevels, and repaired areas with a dry cloth. For haze or stickiness, use a fresh pad and the manufacturer cleaner's directions rather than applying wax. Increase ordinary room airflow, not direct heat.

Step 9: Wash and store microfiber tools properly

Launder mop heads separately from linty fabrics and without fabric softener, then dry as the pad label directs. Replace a pad that retains grit or oily residue. Empty the vacuum and clean its hard-floor head so the next dry pass does not redeposit abrasive particles.

Step 10: Prevent scratches, moisture, and warranty problems

Use clean felt pads, non-staining entry mats, and a hard-floor chair mat. Lift furniture and distribute heavy rolling loads. Avoid wax, polish, oil soap, abrasive cleaner, and wet bucket mopping. Stop and document swollen edges, chipped wear layer, open joints, or water entering the perimeter before cleaning again.
