How to Clean a Nuna SENA Aire Playard
Nuna designed the SENA aire mattress for deeper cleaning: the pad unzips, its structural panels come out, and the remaining softgoods are machine-washable and dryer-safe according to Nuna's current product guidance. That does not mean the panels, playard frame, mesh walls, bassinet structure or every changer accessory belong in the same cycle. The main cleaning decision is therefore disassembly, with rigid pieces removed before textiles reach the washer and restored in the correct orientation afterward. This guide covers the SENA aire and flags the SENA aire mini and regional versions for manual checks. It also preserves the supplied mattress configuration; Nuna warns never to add another mattress, pillow, comforter or padding to the playard.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Identify the SENA version and empty it
Remove the child, toys and all accessories. Confirm whether the product is SENA aire, SENA aire mini or a regional variant and open its current manual. Detach the included sheet, mattress and bassinet or changer only in the listed order. Do not treat accessory fabric as part of the mattress wash without checking its label.
Step 2: Remove dry debris
Vacuum crumbs and lint from the sheet, mattress seams, mesh wall edges and travel bag. Brush dry debris from frame corners and feet. Do not push a nozzle into a hinge or drag it across mesh; structural wear and torn mesh require service rather than vigorous cleaning.
Step 3: Unzip the mattress and remove panels
Nuna instructs owners to unzip the mattress pad and remove the structural panels before washing the softgoods. Photograph the panel order, direction and closure routing. Keep rigid panels flat and dry, and do not bend them or place them in the washer or dryer.
Step 4: Launder mattress softgoods and sheet
Wash the zip-off mattress textile and included organic cotton sheet using their labels and mild detergent. Nuna describes the mattress softgoods as machine washer and dryer safe, but exact temperature and heat settings still come from the sewn label. Wash separately from rough zippers and skip bleach or unlisted sanitizing chemicals.
Step 5: Wipe panels, frame and fixed mesh
Use a soft cloth lightly dampened with mild soap solution on removable panel surfaces, frame tubes and fixed fabric or mesh. Lift soap with another damp cloth and towel hard parts. Never immerse the frame or panels, spray liquid into joints or scrub mesh with an abrasive brush.
Step 6: Dry every layer completely
Use only the label-approved dryer setting for machine-dryable softgoods, or air-dry when the label requires it. Leave the opened playard in moving air and dry panel surfaces separately. Do not slide rigid panels back into a cover that remains damp at the zipper binding or internal corners.
Step 7: Restore the mattress exactly
Insert each clean dry structural panel in its original orientation and close the mattress zipper fully. Smooth the surface and inspect for folds, gaps or a panel that has shifted. Install the mattress and sheet only as Nuna shows; do not add an aftermarket mattress or extra padding.
Step 8: Test the setup before sleep
Fully open the SENA aire and confirm every frame lock and skid-proof foot is stable. Inspect all mesh, padded edges and zippers, then verify the mattress lies flat and secured at the correct level. Stop using the playard if a panel is damaged, mesh is torn or a lock will not engage.
