How to Clean an O-Cedar EasyWring Mop Head and Bucket

Step 1: Identify the bucket and refill

Check whether you have the original EasyWring bucket or a RinseClean system with separate clean- and dirty-water sections. The similar triangular shape does not make every refill interchangeable. O-Cedar identifies different compatible replacements on its spin-mop comparison page. Before removing the head, inspect the plastic attachment and handle for cracks or loose parts. A damaged connection needs replacement rather than a harder push to make it stay together.

Step 2: Detach the refill using the intended connection

Follow the release method for your mop: hold the microfiber refill securely at floor level and pull the mop base away as instructed. Keep your balance and avoid twisting the handle against a stuck fitting. Remove only the washable refill, not the entire handle assembly, for laundering. Check that no hard debris remains in the fibers or around the plastic ring. If the refill cannot be released without excessive force, consult the system's instructions before damaging the frame or pedal bucket.

Step 3: Rinse out ordinary loose dirt

Rinse the detached head with clean water to remove accessible soil and hair before washing. Direct the dirty water into a suitable drain and clean the surrounding area afterward. Do not use the same dirty bucket water as a final rinse. Keep heavily contaminated heads separate from ordinary laundry until the contamination has been assessed. This routine is for normal household floor cleaning, not a guarantee that a head exposed to hazardous chemicals or sewage can be made suitable for reuse.

Step 4: Wash within the refill's limits

O-Cedar's mop-head washing guide permits machine washing up to 86°F, or 30°C, and says to wash with similar textiles. Follow the label if it is more restrictive. Use an appropriate amount of mild detergent. The EasyWring care instructions exclude bleach and fabric softener. Do not add softener to fluff the fibers, and do not assume the hottest laundry cycle is the right choice for a cleaning tool.

Step 5: Rinse and clean the bucket separately

Empty the bucket after use, then rinse away sediment with clean water. Wipe accessible surfaces with a soft cloth as needed, paying attention to the rim and ordinary splash areas. Do not dismantle the foot-pedal drive or pour lubricant into it as part of cleaning. On RinseClean, attend to both water sections using its own use-and-care instructions. Separate clean water during mopping does not mean the clean-water compartment never needs attention. Leave no old solution standing in the system.

Step 6: Lay the head flat and let the bucket drain

O-Cedar instructs owners to lay the washed refill flat to dry. Do not tumble-dry it based on instructions for another microfiber brand. Choose a clean, ventilated spot where the fibers are not bunched into a damp ball. Rinse the bucket and allow it to dry before storage, keeping it out of excessive sunlight. Check corners and separate water compartments for trapped droplets. Putting the damp refill straight back into a closed wet bucket can recreate the stale smell you were trying to remove.

Step 7: Reattach and check before touching the floor

When everything is dry, align the correct refill with the mop base and press until it locks as described for the system. Give it a gentle tug to confirm secure attachment. Inspect the fibers again for grit and ensure the plastic frame is not exposed in a way that contacts the floor. Test the wringing action normally. A pedal that slips, jams or no longer returns needs troubleshooting specific to the bucket; washing the head cannot repair that mechanism. Store the dry set ready for the next clean.
