How to Clean a PETLIBRO Dockstream Fountain

Step 1: Identify the model and disconnect power

Check the product label and manual before lifting anything apart. Unplug a corded model or remove a rechargeable reservoir from its powered base as directed. Keep the adapter, charging contacts and base away from the sink. Do not assume a dishwasher-safe stainless tray makes the plastic tank, pump or electronics dishwasher-safe; PETLIBRO warns that dishwasher heat can deform parts on models not expressly approved for it.

Step 2: Empty the fountain and discard used filters

Pour old water into a drain and remove the drinking tray, filter cover, main filter and foam filter in the order shown for the model. Used filters are replacement parts, not scrub-and-reuse media. Note the orientation of every layer or take a photo so water will pass through the filter correctly at reassembly. Remove hair from intake slots before it can fall deeper into the pump.

Step 3: Take apart the pump if the model has one

Lift out the pump, remove its front cover and intake plate, then ease out the small magnetic impeller with a fingernail or approved tool. Never pull on a pump cable. A wireless pump still contains wet-side components that need cleaning even though there is no cord inside the tank. If the impeller resists, soak only the removable wet parts briefly rather than prying hard enough to crack them.

Step 4: Wash the reservoir and removable drinking parts

Hand-wash the tank, tray and filter housing with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft sponge. Work a bottle brush around seams, corners and the water outlet where biofilm hides. Use the dishwasher only for a part that PETLIBRO identifies as dishwasher-safe for this exact model, and keep it away from heated drying unless the manual allows it. Rinse until the surfaces no longer feel slippery or smell of soap.

Step 5: Clean the pump chamber and impeller

Use the small brush and clean water inside the pump cavity, around the impeller blades and through the inlet. A cotton swab can lift film from narrow channels without scratching them. For mineral deposits, follow the model manual; a short diluted-vinegar treatment may help removable wet parts, but vinegar must not enter a powered base or remain as drinking-water residue. Rinse every treated piece thoroughly.

Step 6: Wipe the powered base and charging contacts

Clean the base with a soft cloth that is damp, not dripping, and immediately dry it. Do not rinse, immerse or spray the base. Wipe accessible contacts with a dry lint-free cloth unless PETLIBRO gives a different contact-cleaning method. Corrosion, a swollen battery, cracked insulation or liquid inside the base calls for support and replacement assessment rather than another cleaning cycle.

Step 7: Dry, install fresh filters and reassemble

Air-dry the washed hardware and confirm that pump connectors and exterior contacts are dry. Rinse a new filter under clean water as its package directs to remove loose carbon dust, and fit both the main filter and foam prefilter in their correct positions. Seat the impeller and pump covers without forcing them, align the outlet and restore the tray. A missing foam filter lets hair reach the impeller prematurely.

Step 8: Refill and confirm steady circulation

Add fresh water within the marked minimum and maximum levels, set the reservoir on a completely dry base and reconnect power. Watch the first minutes for leaks, sputtering or unusual pump noise. Trapped air, a reversed filter, a low water level or a poorly seated impeller can interrupt flow. PETLIBRO recommends repeating the pump-and-fountain cleaning and replacing both filters at least every two weeks, more often with multiple pets or heavy shedding.
