How to Clean a Razer Mechanical Keyboard

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Confirm whether keycaps are removable
Find the exact model number on the keyboard label and open its Razer support page. Standard mechanical keycaps may be removable, but low-profile, analog, membrane, laptop-style, or specialty caps can use different hardware. Do not pull a cap until the model documentation or construction confirms it is intended to come off.
Step 2: Disconnect all power
Unplug a wired keyboard from the computer and disconnect any passthrough cable. Turn a wireless model off, unplug its charging cable, and remove a removable battery only if its manual instructs. Detach the wrist rest and accessories. Never clean a powered keyboard or reconnect while moisture or loose parts are present.
Step 3: Photograph the layout
Take a clear overhead photo before removing anything. Pay special attention to function rows, media keys, alternate-language keys, and differently shaped modifiers. Large keys such as the space bar, Enter, Shift, and Backspace may have stabilizers and deserve extra caution. A layout record prevents forced reinstallation in the wrong position.
Step 4: Remove approved keycaps straight upward
Use a plastic keycap puller centered on one removable cap and lift straight up with even pressure. Place caps in the tray in rough layout order. Do not twist switch stems, pull on low-profile scissor caps, or remove a large stabilized key if the model instructions do not show how it detaches. Razer's general guide says to remove keycaps when the keyboard has removable ones.
Step 5: Tip out loose debris
Support the keyboard with both hands, turn it upside down, and gently tap the rigid back so loose crumbs fall out. Razer recommends the upside-down approach when caps are not removable. Do not strike, shake violently, or flex the board, and keep debris from falling into an exposed USB or passthrough port.
Step 6: Use controlled compressed air
Keep the can upright and use short controlled bursts across the key field, directing debris toward an open edge. Hold the straw back so it does not hit caps or switch stems. Do not invert the can, which can release propellant, and do not spin or blast a loose component at close range. Follow with a dry soft brush for particles caught around switch housings.
Step 7: Dry-wipe the case and keycaps
Use a clean dry microfiber cloth over the top plate, case edges, cable, controls, and each keycap surface. Razer recommends microfiber for dirt or residue and advises avoiding alcohol-based cleaning solutions. Do not spray cleaner, pour liquid, use disinfectant, or rub printed legends with abrasive material.
Step 8: Clean the wrist rest by its material
Separate a magnetic or detachable wrist rest. Use a dry microfiber cloth first. Leatherette, fabric, cooling gel, and hard plastic cannot automatically share one wet cleaner, so follow the accessory instructions. Keep liquid away from seams, magnets, electrical contacts, and integrated lighting, and let any approved damp-cleaned surface dry separately.
Step 9: Reinstall caps without forcing switches
Compare each cap with the photo, align it squarely over the correct stem, and press straight down with gentle even pressure. Refit stabilized keys only as the model mechanism requires. Stop if a cap tilts, binds, or needs unusual force. Confirm every removed cap sits level and moves freely.
Step 10: Inspect, reconnect, and test
Check that the key field, cable, ports, and wrist rest contain no loose fibers or tools. Reconnect the keyboard and test every key using Razer Synapse or a trusted keyboard tester. A key that remains stuck, repeats, or fails after safe exterior cleaning may have a switch, stabilizer, spill, or electronics problem that needs support.
